I am working on a case at church. A member of the congragation helped a person in the churches ministry by opening a checking account for the one being ministered (a permant resident alien- legal). The church wanted someone else to do it, an told the person who was helping that they could not aid in this way. The one being ministered did not want any one else but the person who opened it to do it for them, and refused help from anyone else. The church is now punishing the one who helped the other person, by denying them the right to pray over anyone in the church within any church function.
What scriptures can I offer in defence of the person who helped?

This is a clear case of prejudice; since when was there an exception to the clause,
"As ye do to the least of these My Brethren,
Even so do ye unto Me"?
From the facts presented, Defendant was following the rule of free gifts (St. Luke 6:38), concerning the recipient Defence Witness; discouragement is hardly what either Defendant or Defence Witness needed; I could call in no less an expert witness for the Defence than Joyce Meyer in a case such as this.

Though the church plays a huge role in our relationship with God, it is not our judge, God is. We are responsible to follow the leading of God, even if it conflicts with legalism. I only use the word legalism because of the consequences faced by the one wanting to help. Not allowing a person to pray over people because of such a reason as this, in my opinion, is ridiculous. Through out Jesus' ministry he helped people despite the objections of the established church's objections. If Christ can heal the sick on the sabbath then this person can open a checking account for the struggling. I know there wasn't very many scripture references, sorry. I trust the logic is sound though.

Joshua said in chapter 24:15, as for me and my house we will serve the Lord. Sometimes people are afraid to step out on faith and help someone, they love this world more than they love God and it is not worth the risk to them. It sounds like this is just a personal decision on someones part to help and I would pray about finding another church especially if the pastor is against this person. Obviously someone loves the world more than they love Christ and is at best luke warm in their chistianity and you know from the book of Revelations what Jesus does to people who are like that. The Beatitudes comes to mind in this situation. Is the people in Church following all of them?

This is just sad and the reason I don't go to church at all.
