Holy Baptism is not "additional", it is an extension of Christ's very life, suffering, death & resurrection bestowed on an individual (Eph. 5:26; Gal. 3:26-27; Romans 6:3-4). That is also why Holy Baptism follows the giving/hearing of the Gospel many, many times in Acts. In other words it is an extension of the Gospel (not a law). Baptism is *not* man's work, but God's work for us.
When Holy Baptism is made into a work, I think Jesus gets quite upset that we are corrupting His pure Gospel (perfect work) for *all* people & claiming it to be our own (work).

Baptism is not mandatory for salvation. The thief on the cross is a good example. But baptism and the Lords Supper are things brought up in scripture for us to observe so I think it is something to take seriously. Baptism symbolizes dying and rising to a new life and I cannot see why Christians wouldn't want to observe this.

Yes. The Scripture plainly states that Peter, when asked at the Upper Room the question, 'Men and bretheren, what MUST we do to be saved"? responded, "Repent AND BE BAPTIZED EVERY ONE OF YOU (no exceptions) in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ for the remission of your sins and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." Granted, that's probably the single most familiar Scripture ever memorized by children in church, but it rings a universal truth! Without baptism, you cannot be cleansed from your present sin. Granted, you can be FORGIVEN through repentance, but you have to go through the ritualistic cleansing of baptism in order to be restored spiritually and begin life anew with Christ as you learn to distance yourself from secular distractions and sin.

Mark 16:16
He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
HE THAT BELIEVES AND IS BAPTIZED
If will are able to be baptized we MUST be baptized. Jesus told us to be.
Remember God judges the heart, he knew the theif could not get down and be baptized. In this we can have confidence if someone is saved on their death bed they are saved. Or if someone gives their life to Jesus and dies before they can get baptized they are saved.
We must be baptized. FAITH WITHOUT WORKS IS DEAD.
1 Peter 3:21
The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:
BAPTISM DOTH ALSO NOW SAVE US

oksiti,
What do you mean as "additional"? I believe it is a part of salvation. There are too many examples of Baptism in the New Testament for it to be "optional". I realize that the Baptist Doctrines have blurred the Truth of this matter but I do not understand why that is the case.
Examples of Baptism from the KJV Bible are:
BAPTISM –
Acts 10:48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then they asked him to stay a few days.
Acts 2:38 Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”
Mark 16:16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.
1 Peter 3:21 There is also an antitype which now saves us--baptism (not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Romans 6:3-4 do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
Acts 22:16 “And now why are you waiting? Arise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord.”
Galatians 3:26-27 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
1 Corinthians 12:13 For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body--whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free--and have all been made to drink into one Spirit.
John 3:23 Now John also was baptizing in Aenon near Salim, because there was much water there. And they came and were baptized.
Acts 8:38 He commanded the chariot to stand still. And both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water, and he baptized him.
Jesus said in Matthew 28:19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit
Have a wonderful weekend.
Thanks,
Eds
EDIT:
Mary,
There is NO Biblical mention of Baptism being a "Public Showing" the Apostles baptized over 3,000 at Pentecost. It never said that was optional, did it? The Eunuch immediately ask what doth hinder me from being baptized? After he was taught the gospel. The jailer and the seller of purple were baptized also after their teaching. We do not have an example that says anything about those being optional EVER! Please study the Baptisms and ignore wht your church has been saying. Please read and remember the definition of "AND" in Mark 16:16, both were to be done, NOT just one of the items mentioned.
TBird,
I personally believe that we should study GOD'S WORD and follow what HE tells us to do, NOT what man tells us... Don't YOU?? HIS WORD is rather clear if you study it closely.
Primoa & ThunderCatt,
The Thief on the cross was exempted by our Savior. He lived under the Old Law, not under the New Testament as we do. Christ's Church began at Pentecost with the Baptism of the 3,000 not prior to HIS Death, Burial, and Resurrection! You should know that much....

Jesus said, "He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned." The required part is believing. Baptism is the outward symbol which shows others that you have died and been buried to sin, and reborn to new life in Christ. Incidentally, baptize comes from the Greek word baptizo which means to immerse. Sprinkling or pouring water over the head can hardly symbolize being buried and reborn.

No, the baptism is not requirement for savlation, but it is what Jesus did also to teach us how to start the life as Christian. We are not saved by anything we do, it is all about what Jesus did for us on the cross. However, if you have a change to get baptised,Jesus wants us to do that. : )

NO a Thousand Times NO.
Baptism is only an outward sign of a salvation that is all ready granted. No one can save, no action can save you except the Lord

no.
most that say that will point to 1 or 2 scriptures and misinterpret them
Lets take Acts 2:38 their favorite.
38Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
see the comma after repent? Means pause and start a different or new thought.
There are many scriptures that leave baptism out
John 3:16
1 Jn 5:12
Rom 10:13 to name 3
if baptism is important where is it in these verses?
The thief on the cross asked Jesus to save him and Jesus save. OK get down and jump in the lake.
NO he said
Luke 23:43
And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, Today shalt thou be with me in paradise.
the catholics will claim it is purgatory. there is no purgatory in the bible.
If i come upon a car wreck and the man in the car is dying i can lead him to Christ. I dont have to drag him to a puddle and dunk him.
Jesus is the way.
