She has had a policy with State Farm for liability which is the requirement in Illinois which was about $68 a month
Yesterday they said she now has to pay $130 a month for insurance on a 1995 Toyota Camry.
There is no loan on the car, so I told her just to get the basic liability insurance in illinois.
Isnt $130 a month high and why do you suppose it all the sudden went up.
I told her to call them back and she did. They gave her some spill about a deposit and monthy payments. My name is on the title of the car, neither of us have ever had a wreck. I insure an old truck for about $45 a month.
What do you think about her sudden increase in payment from State Farm? I am trying to make her independent, so I have refused to pay her insurance.

Actually no, $130 a month for a 19 year old is NOT high. You might find an independent agent, give them her information and let them look at their data base of companies to see if you can better, but don't be surprised if you can't.
Was it renewal time? Most companies will look at records and re-evaluate when the policy is coming up for renewal. Or if she was on your insurance, and now has her own policy, that could be another reason for the increase. Or perhaps there is a ticket you aren't aware of? Or, if she is still in school and the company was giving a good grade discount, the grades have dropped?

Is she still living at home? If so that plays a part. Did she move out? Are you a SF customer? If so she could be getting discounts for your lines of insurance through SF. Example, if you are both SF customers living under the same household, you get discounts for multicar and multiline if you have your home, or life insurance through SF. If she moved out she would have lost those discounts. Add that to a youthful driver and that is your increase right there.

That is a big jump. Wow. She's a teenager thats all I can say but also start looking for a different insurance company. It shouldn't be that high. did she get a speeding ticket or something that made it jump that high. If not I would be checking into it. I heard state farm has done that to a few of my friends and they haven't had any accidents and no tickets. I would look into it also besides ur daughter. and look for another insurance company. good luck

I SORRY TO SAY THAT IS STILL VERY CHEAP FOR A 19 YEAR OLD BUT AT THE SAME TIME YOU ARE INSURING A CAMRY AND SHE HAS VERY LITTLE DRIVING EXPERIENCE.
I ASSUME THAT SHE IS LIVING AT HOME AND THAT HELPS TO SOME DEGREE BUT YOU STATED THAT YOU ARE NOT PAYING HER INSURANCE BECAUSE SHE NEEDS TO BE INDEPENDENT, WELL IF SHE IS NOT ON YOUR POLICY AS WELL THAT WILL ALSO MAKE THE RATES HIGHER.
