They do not have temporary plates in Massachuetts and I wanted to spend some time traveling around Mass before returning back to Canada.

Mass has some strange rules and regulations. You do not say if you are buying a new car, or a specific used car, but most likely the best thing to do is have the paperwork sent to NB, and register the vehicle there. If you are traveling to Mass, take the tags with you! If you are already in Mass, have the NB plates sent to you!

If you are buying a new car, you may want to consider crossing the border into New Hampshire, and buying from a dealer there. They can issue you a temporary tag, and you can drive on that tag in any of the 50 states!
