Do any other Christians find it strange that God was once "pleased" with Blood offerings for sins in the OT?

God was pleased that the people realized they needed atonement for sins.

The spilling of blood was a type and shadow of the sacrifice that Jesus was going to offer when he shed his blood at Calvary.

And how do you know that? I feel that this was a "human" responce to what they thought God wanted.
