The rules on manner of worship is completely discarded in modern society. No more killing of goats and doves or your own children.
Who decides which rules are ok to ignore and which should be followed to the letter?

My dear friend
Indeed the times have changed and the views in scripture particularly about women are now beginning to come up to speed. The Gospel has raised and freed women from the slavery and submission which culture imposed on them. Subsequent generations suppressed women again in keeping with the cultural norms - sadly even within Christianity. All that divided men and women was erased in Christ; In Christ says St Paul there is no Greek nor Jew, no slave or free, nor man or woman etc......
These divisions were not to hold an sway in the light of the Gospel, but these divisions die hard. Yet to day they are being questioned again; the Gospel yet still challenges us.
Peace

One of the things about the bible is that when we are reading it, we have to take into account the times in which these were written. Just like we have our culture, they have their culture and this reflects heavily in the bible.
The culture at the time, looked down on women. Women had but one traditional role during that time.
Being a wife, a *slave* around the home and bearing child after child, because they were trying to build up the world.
In the NT we see that the views were very similar.
But, Jesus changed that in the fact, that He was very respectful of women and Mary Magdalene was even a disciple(not one of the 12)
In that day and age it would have been very strange to see a woman that was following a prophet all around and not at home cooking and having babies.
But, Jesus never turned around and told her to go home,
He wanted everyone to learn, not just the men.
There are several times in the bible when Jesus used women to teach important lessons, like the woman at the well, or the woman that had committed adultery and the Jews wanted to stone her.
Also, in the end, it was women who found that Jesus' body was not in the tomb.
So Jesus showed in the NT that women were more important than they had previously been treated.
And in todays culture we know that women are an important part of todays society.

When Christ came he explained some of the principles that underly the commandments and laws. Some of those old testament laws do not apply to us anymore. We can eat whatever we want, we no longer are considered unclean after a birth, or during our periods.
The Civil commandments are still upheld, and even became a bit more strict. Murder isn't just Killing anymore, it's actually being angry with another person too.
Read the new Testament and have a look.

The Scriptures show clearly that God’s personality has not changed over the centuries and will not change in the future. ‘God’ is the supreme embodiment of constancy and consistency. At all times he is dependable and trustworthy. We can always rely on him, malachi 3:6
The example of caring parents who shift roles for the sake of their children illustrates how this is possible. In the course of a single day, a parent may be a cook, a housekeeper, an electrician, a nurse, a friend, a counselor, a teacher, a disciplinarian, and much more. The parent does not change personality when assuming these roles; he or she simply adapts to needs as they arise. The same is true of ‘God’ but on a far grander scale. There is no limit to what he can cause himself to become in order to fulfill his purpose and to benefit his creatures.—Romans 11:33.

Again I think this is problematic for those fundamentalist, legalistic Christians who consider the Bible to be nothing more than some dry, legalistic, textbook - the Bible is simply not meant to be interpreted without the Spirit of God.
So then - as a former member of the Church of Christ, I still recall the mental gymnastics some of our preachers had to perform to explain Paul's writings to the Corinthian church. For example - why Paul claimed it was better not to marry; in their warped interpretation became "well it was because of the troubled, distressed times of the day".
Sooner or later - as a spiritless Christian, the Bible will give you some major problems.
Once I became born-again and filled with the Holy Spirit of God, I understood some things I didn't know as a hypocritical, legalistic, holier-than-thou "Church-of-Christ" Christian.

I believe the scriptures apply to today just as much as they did when they were written. Men/women are the ones who don't like what they say and keep making changes but the Bible addresses that problem and those who add or remove things from the scripture will answer on Judgment Day.

There are liberal 'Christians' which have all but forsaken the Bible and then there are those (by God's grace) which hold to the 66 books of the Bible as fully inspired and authoritative. My wife and three daughters all wear a head covering in church - in fact this is the position of my denomination. We believe the Bible teaches complementarianism, thus we believe in male headship in the family and we reject the ordination of women to church offices.
For the last fifty years America has been bombarded with a Nazi-like feminism, which has destroyed many a family.
Here is a video which exposes this:

Get real. The scriptures were written by the early equivalents of Sunday Sport journalists for an intended readership with the IQ of Big Brother contestants.
Of course they no longer apply.
Common sense, basic education and a democratic society with a system of law and order tells you all you need to know about how to lead your life.

For the moment it is good to take the positives which surely outnumber the contradictory facts...some of which are as good as redundant. But by seeing it positively you can understand the ground realities at those times when the Bible was written
