My question is whether or not women like artistic guys (actual artists, not just some guy who can play guitar). They say they do, but I hear a lot of women freak out over guys with psychological issues. And in my experience, most TRUE artists, have issues to one extent or another.

I don't know whether to believe the one part of what they say or the other. I am a very romantic man who for the most part is pleasant to be around confident, and fun. But I reach modes of EXTREME darkness (my most creative moments), where I don't think anyone wants to be around me (lights off, no tv, just me and the dark, twisted thoughts in my mind).

I do take medication and go to therapy, but it can only do so much. I want to find the love of my life, but I dread subjecting anyone to the darkness I feel.

Ladies, would you be willing to date someone who has this sort of life? Would it turn you off if someone acted like this?

Everyone goes through phases in their life when they have to do these things, and myself and my husband (we're both artists) have our moments ...

I think too that people forget that seeds sprout in the darkness of the earth, and that you cannot understand light until you have experienced darkness. This is a process you need to go through to make the art, and perhaps you should tell prospective partners this. It's a good idea to make it clear to them that they do not need to be there for these 'dark' times of yours, if they do not wish to be there.

Some women would find this hard to take. I would have, ten years ago, but not now. With maturity (I'm 39) comes security. Personally I would be turned off if a man said to me that I have to share all aspects of his life, including this, if I want to keep him. You wouldn't see me for the dust. But if you could let her know that experiencing this with you is an option rather than an obligation, it would make things easier, especially if you have a room you can go to where you can go through this process. She might decided to take the option once or twice, but would probably prefer to get on with her own thing and leave you to yours.

Honest to god, the tortured artist kind of thing is the type of man I'd hook up with and then just be friends with or something. I wouldn't want to be in a long-term relationship with a tortured soul, or a bad boy for that matter, but I'd definitely get with them for fun.

But that's just me, because I personally like sunshine and whatnot.
