Reading your bio you won't need to memorize anything. If you have a genuine love of the Lord and your country you will do just fine.
Boot camp will be the hardest, learning to adjust to military ways, but I found they were the fondest memories.
There is always a nervousness when making big changes in our lives, Scripture says be anxious for nothing.
They really mean when they say "it's not a job it's an adventure".

What most everyone has said so far is true. You'll be provided everything that you have to memorize once you get there. But it definitely won't hurt to have a little prep in knowing the Sailor's Creed and your General Orders.

Navy boot camp is not a big deal as long as you don't let it be. Keep a positive attitude, pay attention and help others out as much as you can and you'll be just fine.

I'm leaving for navy boot camp in a week. They suggest you memorizing the eleven general orders of a sentry as well as the Sailors Creed. If you really want to impress the Instructors at boot camp get the Bluejackets Manual. Its a book that goes over the basics of everything Navy, it has been described as the bible of the Navy. Good Luck!

Everything they want you to know they will tell you. Just pay attention and you will do fine.

They get all kinds of people in the service and the training it tailored to a level to make everyone successful.

Just remember that they want everyone in your group to come together and work as one unit. They don't like individualism, they want teamwork.

Don't be surprised if at some point in your training they relieve your Company Commander because he isn't doing a good job of bringing you together. Then he will come back and ask you all to pull together which usually is a turning point and everyone starts working as one. In the Navy the "Ship" is important and it takes a crew to keep it going. The Navy can't fulfill its mission with a bunch of individuals rowing around by themselves.

Good luck!

g-day!

went though navy boot a couple of years ago. its really not that bad. try to memorize the ranks and your general orders. also know the difference between port and starboard.
But you will have plenty of time in boot to memorize everything.
the best advice i can give you is to keep your mouth shut and do what they say. Don't be an individual.
After three months, my RDCs wouldn't have even know my name if it wasn't on my uniform.
EDIT: Don't worry about impressing them they wont care. also don't worry about the Blue Jackets manual they will give you one when you get to great lakes.
the sailors creed is a good one though.

The 13 general orders would help.
Remember it's port and straboard.
Don't let anyone send you for 2 fathoms of gig line or chow line. There is no such thing as a mail buoy. And remember their goal is to break you down to nothing and then rebuild you.

My boyfriend just graduated from basic training in the Great lakes,
I know before he left he memorized the sailors creed and all his laws or rules.
he said that helped cause they will ask you and if you mess up you get IT (intensive training) He said IT sucks to and that alot of people dropped out during IT. but he also said his cheof was nicknamed cheif satan. so it really depends on who ur cheif is.
i wish you the best of luck =)

It's more of a mental thing than a physical one. Follow orders and don't say anything smart. There's nothing to memorize beforehand. You'll be okay.

the Eleven General Orders, Anchors Aweigh and the Sailor's Creed.

Anxiety is natural. Your leaving home and you don't know what awaits you. I can guarantee you that if you take everything that is thrown at you... stress and endure, physical training and become hard bodied, educationally learn all you can, you will not regret it! One thing you won't regret is why you made the decision and who you become after you've endured and step foot upon your vessel. I remember when I was in my second week of basic and I was with my drill seargent on an errand on post... we ran into one of his former soldiers who at this time was a specialist (Army). As I stood there at parade rest while he spoke with her and admired her new found confidence I envied her. I eagerly awaited my turn to feel as proud as she probably felt as I stood there wanting to be in her shoes. Let me tell you, I got my opportunity to stand there and feel as proud as she likely did that day. I don't regret my decison. It made me who I am. Basic wasn't designed to be easy. It was desinged to prepare you for being a better soldier. It's the beginning of a block of instruction that will last throughout your career. But one day you will be that soldier standing there as nothesr follows behind you and look up to you just as you are looking up now. And you will remember like I do that it was all worth it. Good for you. Serve our country well! And by all means please email me whenever you like. Good luck! And if you can remember a couple of things.... never let them see you sweet, don't let them smell your fear and always be there early rather than on time.
