It all depends on how many people are involved, where you intend on hosting the evening and what type of food you plan on serving. A wedding I just coordinated had a rehearsal dinner with a $1250.00 budget. But that is because they invited over 100 people to the dinner and wanted everyone who couldn't attend the wedding day get a wedding experience also. While my rehearsal dinner only cost me about $300.00 because it was in the church banquet hall and we served small club sandwiches and punch.
I would call a few restaurants and ask for their catering menu and see what they offer.

Traditionally, the rehearsal dinner is hosted (paid for) by the Groom's Mother and/or Father. If the Groom's parents are unable to host the dinner/party then a close friend or family member of the Bride or Groom's can host the party. Neither the Bride or Groom nor the Bride's parents should host the rehearsal dinner unless you have no other alternative.
There is NO average price because some rehearsal dinners take place at a pizza restaurant or in a Chinese restaurant were the food is quite reasonable and no liquor is involved.
And some people just purchase a couple of deli platters and a few bottles of soda and party on someone's back porch.
There is a BIG difference between having your rehearsal dinner at a Chinese restaurant (about $15 per person) and a upscale restaurant (about $70 per person). And the difference is . . the amount of liquor consumed and what type of liquor is consumed.
The Rehearsal Dinner should NEVER be a duplication of the wedding reception dinner. The menu should be different, the location should be different, and the formaility should be different. Printed invitations with a RSVP (and dress code) should be mailed out at least three weeks in advance of the dinner/party.

Well, I've been to some where a few speeches are made for the bride and groom by the parents of the bride & groom, sort of like a "roast". Those are fun to attend, but I know my parents would have NEVER been able to even talk about old times without being emotional, so i didn't happen at mine instead, I had my rehearsal dinner at a cool restaurant where they had a lounge, and dinner was buffet and the drinks were open, but not many people drank alcohol so that was cool. The lounge was comfy... couches and tables for everyone... then there was a pool table in the middle or the room, so everyone had a god time! It was relaxing since the next day would be expensive... and so proper. Take this time to relax and enjoy your company. The people at rehearsal are those who have done a lot for your and that mean the most to you. Enjoy and congrats!

We rented a hall and had it catered for $600. We had a big wedding and invited all of the guests that flew in the night before our wedding to the dinner. The cost included the room fee, an Italian buffet and all the alcohol. You can make it as big or a small as you want though.

go see their menu.....decide which 2 or 3 meals they will have a choice from, dessert and drinks.....figure the most one person could get and multiply that by how many people you invite to that dinner. Remember to include the minister.

We had so many people in from out of town -- a backyard BBQ fed about 55 people for about $150 - $200.
Menu planning was very exacting, and recipes were home made. Amount was plenty to feed us all, without many leftovers.
