I've looked through the manual online.
Your camcorder will not transfer the footage to a computer via USB. A few of them do these days, but yours does not. You will need a DV (Firewire/iLink/IEEE1394) cable. You can use the USB cable to use the GS250 as a webcam, to transfer images, or to transfer highly-compressed video files, but you can't use it to transfer your video, as recorded, to your computer.
You will also need to make sure your computer has a Firewire port, whether it's 4-pin or 6-pin; it doesn't have to match the camcorder. You simply need the cable to connect the two ports, whatever sizes they are. You camcorder has a 4-pin DV port. Therefore, you'd need either a 4-to-6 Firewire cable, or a 4-to-4. If you don't have the port on your computer, you'll need a Firewire card, which aren't that expensive these days.
Hope this helps!

Camera out.
Composite AV out, RCA plugs,
Yellow, video. Red & white, audio.
Computer in.
USB video. Headphone style jack, stereo audio in.
I bought a Ulead a few years ago. Mine came with one or two
programs, other than 11. I think, it was to do with runing a TV
card? Choice came up, VIDEO TV click TV from there, you
set, line in, dvd/COMP/svhs. You can preview real time, set
audio input & levels. I think, preferances has output formats
M-PEG seems the go. Still more choices for format size
If you get image & sound, on the preview, we are on.
Test results, on other equipment, for quality or lack of.
Glitches are dissapointing, and seem hard to avoid, with some transfers. Try lots of settings, lots of time viewing
results, Image on screen, inches from your face, varies
even in the way, imformation is prossesed, on TV. through
a DVD. I am no expert, the better your video & audio card,
the better, as is USB 2, input. TEST TEST TESTING

Brad, if you don't have a firewire card you need to buy one, USB is not designed for transferring video, only photos. You will lose data and your videos will look bad. You can get a firewire card on ebay for $20 including shipping. I wish people would not answer if they don't know exactly what they are saying.
