It is a tooth that has given many problems since receiving a filling, the last time he tried to fix it, he gave me 5 shots, one which is supposed to be stronger than normal and it still felt like he was drilling my nerve! It is still in pain and needs more work done but I am scared because it is going to hurt like crazy! Does the gas that dentist give you help numb you up or is shots the only thing, because if it it then I will have to have it pulled because it it just too painful

Get knocked out. They put a needle in your arm, tell you to count backwards from 10......I made it to 8.
good times.

It probably means that you have extra nerves in this area (usually on a bottom tooth). Using traditional anesthetics (lidocaine) usually won't cut it. Injecting into the same area doesn't work either. You need to see someone who "gets" how anesthetics work ( you need 4% citanest or 4% septocaine) and need to be numbed next to the tooth on the inside area as well. The "strong stuff" he used didn't won't because he'd already injected too much anesthetic in the area.
Good luck

I would try another dentist who knows nerves a bit better, but an alternative is to have it under general anesthesia (gas) which stops your feeling of pain and any memory of it. There are a couple of dentists in our area that promise they do all their dental work under gas, presumably with at least nurse anesthetist on hand for complications because breathing can stop, etc.
One problem with gas is that you have to have time to recover, so appointments should take longer.

I went to a dentist once that kept injecting me with novacane. He said I needed it more because he would ask me "can you feel that". I think if they keep injecting you with this stuff, it may help. I mean like maybe several injections. By the way, mine was for one tooth. Like you.

Nitrous doesn't really numb the pain, but it helps you not care. I have refused Novocaine since I was 18, I request gas or nothing since the Novocaine does nothing for me.

Gas at the dentist knocks you out completely.
