It is rather an expression of extending the offender a chance to kiss you on that cheek – a symbol that they were asking forgiveness and you were offering them the opportunity to be forgiven. It’s a Semitic expression. So in short, turning the other cheek means: here’s an opportunity for us to forgive and be forgiven, and to reconcile even though you have offended me.

So if a burglar stole my wallet then slapped my face, I certainly would not give him another opportunity to steal from me or slap me. I might give him a karate kick… who knows. Whatever would help him repent and ask for forgiveness.

You believe the teaching of turning the other cheek is our achilles heel? You don't understand Christ or His teaching.
Christ taught that we should not be agressive and should repel it by love, We are to be as wise as foxes though and the NT teaches we are to defend ourselves.

Also a burglar is one who breaks into a home or premises to steal.

That is what Islam says should be done to thieves. The Biblical Law Covenant is much too civilized, a caught thief should pay back at by working it off at least twice the amount.
