Why do you tell people to get their dog spayed? What gives you the right to tell others whether or not to breed their dogs? What makes you worthy of giving such opinion on what dogs can be bred, and what dogs can't be bred? Who made you so high and mighty?
I understand there are irresponsible breeders out there, but that doesn't give you the right to lecture others on mutts, breeding mutts, breeding for the better of a breed and so on. It is like people telling other people whether or not they can have kids. It is very rude, disprespectful and extremely degrading. There are nicer ways to ask someone to get their dog spayed than to insult them by putting in that they're not responsible owners and crap like that.
Perhaps it is just a personal perferance that someone rather not get their pet spayed or neutered. Ever thought of that?
And whether or not a dog is worthy of being bred is not your opinon. There so happens to be many mutts that I find much better than purebreds.

You are not understanding my point.
I completely understand that there are plenty of dogs that deserve a chance at life that are not given the chance because of irresponsible breeders. I know how many horrible things happen to young puppies because of some irresponsible human who forgot to spay/neuter their dog.
Yet this does not give the people the right to go on and snap at someone because their dog is not neutered. My dog will be spayed next month, I am not anti-spay or whatever. I am merely making a point on how people are extremely rude and insensitive when it comes to topics such as this.
There is no need to go and ramble on and on about why a dog needs to be spayed. A simple sentence would do it. It so happens many of the users on here likes to say it in a "I know everything", "Your dog is not worthy of breeding", "My dog isn't spayed because I'm a professional breeder and you so happen not to be" tones. It is annoying and rude. That's all I'm saying.

People do not seem to get it when I said I DO understand that there are MILLIONS of dogs being killed each year because of irresponsible breeders.
However, rather than telling others what to do, do something yourself.
And do not lecture others about designer dogs. I happen to have one and I love her very much. And yes, I did go to the shelter before getting her, and I found the shelter had no dogs and usually didn't get dogs unless someone lost a dog.
Designer dogs are dogs too. Just because someone has a mixed two breeds, you should not lecture them on the horrors of mixing breeds and the many shelter dogs.

I agree with you.
But what I think is that if you dont want puppies, or health problems, people should get it done. I have a Doberman, and I have him as a pet, not a cancer/run-away bomb waiting to happen, So I had him neutered.
But what I DONT agree with is people putting their 2 cents in and being all hardcore with a keyboard, and telling people that they HAVE to have their dogs spayed because they said so, and it has to be be done. Any one ever heard of extinction? Anit gunna happen with my breed.
So people need to take their panties out of their asses, and instead of hiding behind their computers and acting all hardcore with the keyboard. Go out and help all those poor dogs you talk to mush about. I mean what the hell are you doing on YA! You act like its the population of the world, go out there and help a dog who needs you, but your just rating. All talk and no action.
But theres nothing wrong with mutts, or purebreds. I have one of each, its like having kids, both boys and girls are great.
But if the dog isnt going to be used for anything, or your going to use it to make money, please go get a real job and call a vet for an appointment.
Remember, owning a dog is not a right, its a privilage.

Simply, if a person needs to ask questions like the following:
"How do I tell if my dog is in heat?"
"How do I tell if my dog is pregnant?"
"My dog is having puppies in 2 days, what do I do?"
"I want to breed my dog. How do I go about it?"
"My dog locked up with the boy next door. Is she pregnant?"
...They have no business breeding a dog. Its not a casual weekend hobby; it is serious stuff being responsible for all those young lives.
Whether you prefer mutts or not is really not relevant to whether or not most people should just be letting their dogs procreate. Mutts and purebreds alike can be rescued from a shelter on any given day of the week. And comparing it to people having children is also misguided, because most unwanted children aren't going to be euthanized in 3-7 days if they don't get adopted.
If the truth is rude and disrespectful, hide under the blanket and pretend it doesn't exist. Tell Bob Barker he's degrading the general public by making his little announcement after The Price is Right. Everybody and their brother thinks its their inalienable right to breed dogs, and that's why we're in our present situation with the overpopulation problem.

take a look in your shelter.. have a good look around. Most of those dogs will be euthanized within a week.. and those cages wil quiickly be filled with MORE dogs that will be euthanized.
That is why we say people should spay and neuter. There is no shortage of dogs.. if someone is going to breed, it should be only done to improove or preserve a breed.. not simply to make more cute pets.. there are plenty of cute, wonderful pets dying in shelters!
If someone is determined to breed their dog, they will do it anyways, despite what people say. Some people do open their eyes and realize there are thousands killed every day, so WHY MAKE MORE?
Seriously, its much healthier and safer for your pet to be altered anyways. If you love your pet, you would want what is best for its health, and leave the breeding to the pros.
edited to add:
yes, some people can be rude about it. I'm no pro. my dogs are all altered. Most dogs are NOT breeding quality, and that's the honest truth, whether someone likes it or not!
Some people are just tired of all the breeding questions.. so many here work hard to try to rescue dogs and save lives, and then come here and see someone planning yet another litter of mutt puppies.. it gets discouraging, and it may cause someone to be cranky and rude about it. Can you blame them?

I believe dogs must be spayed-neutered, regardless of the breed. I also love muts more than purebreds. But if you could only see the numbers of stray dogs that get tortured or killed, because someone decided to breed a dog, it is awful. Do you know how many puppies are found in the trash every other day because the owner didn't spay his dog, so she had puppies he doesn't want? And even if the owner finds homes for the puppies, this diminishes the possibility of another homeless dog to find a house.

Its not just a matter of breeding anymore. Its the well being of the pet. It has been proven the health benefits of spaying and neutering adds life to the pet and people that refuse to maintain the pets health are 100% irresponsible.
And yes I most people should not have children. They can't take care of a dog they really should not be trusted with children.

yes, a lot of us ARE know it alls and ARE rude!!!!
When I discovered this forum, I thought to myself "cool! maybe I can share some of my experiences and knowledge I have accumulated since: I started training and competing in obedience in Jr High School, got my 1st purebred dog in High School, raised and showed dogs for about 30 years, now have been competing in agility and training agility students for 12 years!"
I answered only those questions I thought I could give "correct" advice......or when a lot of questions were already answered, starred the good ones..
Then, over and over and over and over again I would see the SAME questions. Like 4 a day!!!
And I saw REALLY stupid questions, scary questions, over and over and over.....
And I saw "questioners" getting upset because they did not get the answer they wanted! Because we "know it alls" would not condone their buying a designer dog over the internet, sight unseen, to breed to their little mixed breed doggy because they would make such cute puppies!!!
I read posts condemning respectable, responsible purebred dog fanciers for breeding and showing their dogs. "how awful"!!!
But no one condemning those people who are responsible for all the unwanted dogs in shelters...people who do not spay/neuter their dogs and allow them to breed in their home (gee...how did that happen?), or let them run free on the streets. Or the people who GET a puppy and find "oh!! it isn't housebroken at 7 weeks old? This is too much trouble. You mean I have to TRAIN a puppy? I don't know how to train a dog. How about if I just let it go or take it to the pound?"
At first I was surprised how ignorant people were!
Then I was shocked how irresponsible people were.
Then I was horrified how people could not figure to take their dog to a vet!!!!
Then I became MAD how just plain STUPID people were!
They are too brain dead to THINK before they get a dog. They are too lazy to search anything on their own. They are too lazy to pick up a phone book and dial a phone. They don't listen! They don't care!
Yes, I have become RUDE!!!!! I wonder why?
Thank you for allowing my daily rant ;-) I am all better now

Have a look at shelters£s many of those beautiful animals in the shelters and pounds are put down, only a few are rehome any one who breeds means that 3 shelter pets at lease will die.
The RSPCA australia recieves over 138,000 animals, large percentages of this total are dogs& cats, but wild&native animals&,livestock& horses.
2003-2004- Stray&irresponisble pet ownership made 135,180+ pets ended up in the shelter
from the 135,180+
58,594+ were dogs
56,702+ cats
37+% dogs and 64+% cats had to be euthanased.

I'm not a know it all but a fully qualified veterinary nurse working for the uks largest animal charity ,our shelters are over run with puppies and dogs from over breeding and the charity picks up the cost we get no government help and rely on donations from the public.
responsible people get there animals spayed and neutered to prevent unwanted pregnancies and diseases, there animals can get.
as for the breeding to many irresponsible people breed badly bred dogs with problems like hip dysplaisia and over shot jaws and bad confirmation ,it does not matter whether they are pedigree or mutts the world has to many badly bred dogs aand there are people on here that give great advice regarding breeding issues
until you work in a shelter and just see hoe many dogs nd puppies are abandoned every year don't take a moral stance against things you don't have to pick up the pieces we do .

When no more dogs are in the humane societies and shelters I encourage you to come back with this question. Until then do some research. Just because something has the ability to reproduce doesn't mean it should, or you have the right to make it. No less than 4 million animals are euthanized yearly because there aren't enough homes. That is why people feel they need to be the voice of innocent animals.

I see exactly where you are coming from. there are a lot of "know it all's" here. i also agree that people have a choice. But it is still very important for people to get it done because of the fact of the over population of dogs. I could keep going but that is where i will stop. I am not a breeder and never will be.
