It will take a divine intervention called regeneration for an Atheist to repent and believe in God. This is a sovereign work of the Holy Spirit whereby a sinner who is spiritually dead is made alive. It is this that enables a sinner to see and enter the Kingdom of God (as Jesus teaches in John 3). In other words, it is God who regenerates sinners and enable them to repent and believe.

"With God all things are possible."

Only the Holy Spirit can cause a person to believe in God. And then the individual still has the ability and the right to deny God. But a person who has never received the Holy Spirit cannot believe. An atheist may come to realize that God exists because of nature, but he won't know anything about God beyond that. He may become an agnostic. He may think it is likely that God exists. But he can't really BELIEVE without the help of the Holy Spirit.

Once Jesus returns, they will believe, because they will see for themselves, but then it will be too late to do them any good.

Actually, that would be fairly easily filed under brain pathology, or large scale practical joke. Further investigation and the quizzing of other witmesses would be required.

A file of ants crawling across my screen and spelling out "It's Christianity*, stupid!" might do it.
*or alternate correct religion

But Paul's assertion in Romans 1, that looking at the universe makes it obvious, is so far off the mark that, rather than convincing, it undermines his case.

You know THAT wouldn't be sufficient; suspicion of schizophrenia would be the logical answer.

I would not find any of the so called miracles in the bible to be sufficient; suspect trickery/illusion/deception.

Prophecy , unless immediate, repetitive and consistent over time would not be enough and then it would not suffice as "god".

It would be a tremendous undertaking of patience, time, explanation and revelation on a on-to-one basis for me to believe in anything remotely considered to be "god".
It would not be something as limiting as the god of the bible.

This is the Best Answer I can offer.

Extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof.

And note that this applies to everything. I totally said quantum mechanics was illogical bullsh*t to my professor until I did the double-slit experiment myself.

You can't argue with reality. If god shows up, I'd believe it.

Not holding my breath, though...

The Holy Spirit reveals Gods' love to them...God's love can softened ANYONE'S heart.....

Either that, or standing at the throne of God in Heaven and realizing that you made a BIG MISTAKE not believing in God....

well several people would have to witness something(the atheist being one of them) and it would have to be something that only god could do that would be scientifically impossible to do. and those people would have to be healthy(mentally and physically) and in a normal state of mind as things like fear, hunger, thirst, etc tend to make people see things that arent there.
