Yes the average person can survive bootcamp.

The Drill Sergeant's primary duty is transform you from an average person to a hardcore Marine. The process isn't over night and that is why Marine boot camp is longer then the other services.

They typically weed our discipline problems during training, not people who can't cut it. If your struggling with a phase of training, you will be washed back and be forced to repeat that training till you can make the cut.

So the average person will survive, it just takes some longer then others to be a Marine.

Boot camp is 13 weeks long, they give you everything you need to live. You have to go in with the mindset that no matter what happens you coming out of there a Marine. People who don't make it don't have the will power. They will get you in physical shape, just be prepared to get yelled at every day for 3 months. Semper Fi

Yes, but its not easy. They will test you, harrass you, beat you down physically and mentally but in the end you've earned something that most people cannot.
