The older lady across the street is bipolar. About twice a week she calles 911. Than here comes the police, EMTS and a fire truck. They come and are gone within mins. You would think by now they would know that she is calling just for them to come over. maybe she is lonley. Do the police have to keep coming over even though she is calling for no reason? and is it not illegal to call 911 if there is no emergency? thanks!

I can see it from your point, but i think about what if there was an real emergency and the police and everyone else was really needed somewhere else. I have gone over more than a few times to see if i could help her with anything and even invited her into my home and she said she does not want to be near anybody

I, so know how you feel, but unfortunately the police, fire & rescue & the EMS have to respond to every call no matter how unnecessary. My husband is a firefighter, so I see these types of calls everyday. Personally I think they should have some type of punishment for the misuse of the 911 system. These people are taking up the precious time & wasting our tax dollars. While our medical responders & police are with these frequent flyer's there are real emergencies taking place & they are needed.

Yes, it is illegal to call 911 for no reason, but if someone calls 911 they still have to come and check because it could be a real emergency. I'm sure the dispatcher knows by now that these calls are usually fake and will give priority to calls from other locations. They could technically prosecute her, but they probably don't want to bother since she is bipolar.

People call 911 for all kinds of reasons. We're not wild about goose chases but crazy people sometimes don't warrant arresting if they didn't do anything malicious.
The police,EMTs, and firemen probably know this address well and know what is up when they get sent. But they have to go just in case.

she may have a legimate reason for calling them so much. when a person gets older if they don't have anyone in the family to come visit or to check on them they might call 911 mainly for companionship, not relizing it may be taking away from others that may really need the help.

Unfortunantely, we are not allowed to make decisions based on what we think might not be an emergency. The one time we didnt show up, she might really need us. As big of a pain as this may seem, it is what we are here for. If it brings a bit of comfort to an elderly lady, then so be it

cops and emt's like nothing more than to race around town with the lights and sirens blaring so this doesn't bother them, and the old lady knows they have to do it.

ONCE CALLED WE MUST RESPOND. ONCE THE SCENE IS CLEARED WE CAN LEAVE.
WHAT ABOUT THE ONE WHO CRIED WOLF AND THEN THEY DID NOT COME?
BEING BI POLAR HAS ITS HARDSHIPS AND FEARS ASSOCIATED WITH IT. IF YOU HAVE NEVER DEALT WITH A BI POLAR PERSON WHO IS OUT OF OR OFF OF THEIR MEDICATION, YOU OUGHT TO BE ACCLIMATED TO THEM.
