It would be healthier for your hair to dry naturally because you aren't putting all the excessive heat on it which is what is damaging to your hair. There is nothing damaging about leaving your hair wet and sleeping on it.

My hair doesnt have any curl, yet as quickly as I do 2 french braids while it truly is damp (with slightly product) and sleep in it, I awaken with magnificent curl/wave. try the french braid- as your curls wont initiate section way down your hair shaft and seem dorky

put some product in your hair like gel or mousse before braiding .. then braid it and let it air dry.. it will be really crimped by morning.

when you braid it when its wet sometimes your hair goes all funny like if you leave it in a wet bun it will go all frizzy and everywhere when you take it out
Your hair might look a bit shinier and tame if you plait it wet
