Since you didn't say what your history teacher said. How can I be expected to answer your question?

The real reasons for the start of the war were Saddam's Weapons of Mass Destruction threats and Saddam himself. Once we discovered there were no WMDs, had started a democratic government in Iraq, and turned over Saddam to the Iraqis the initial war was complete. Then came the insurgency and the tribal wars between Sunnis and S'hias. This continues our missions today. Until there is peace the war cannot be won by anyone, US or Iraqi.

Well I can only speculate what this teacher has told you. Let me guess....oil??

The TRUTH is that the US Army was painting vehicles desert camoflague in April of 1974. That was 5 months after the October Wars. (look it up). So this is something they have been preparing for for a long time. I was there painting.

The TRUTH is that this part of the world has been at their own throats for 100's of years.

The TRUTH is that many Nations have wasted Aid Money on these morons for decades.

The TRUTH is the those horrible Jews moved in and built a working government and an economy while their neighbors stood in the middle of the street shooting AK's in the air.

The TRUTH is they have been governed by Dictators and Monarchs that stole the wealth from under them.

They TRUTH is that some of the lowest literacy rates are in the Middle East. The lowest are in the African countries we hear about on the news daily.

The TRUTH is that the US does not rely on oil from the Middle East. Europe, India, China, Japan do.

The TRUTH is that the corn flakes you had for breakfast were delivered to the store in the back of a 53ft trailer being pulled by a 28,000lb tractor that gets 10mpg.

The TRUTH is that your Dads, your Moms and your Teachers retirement accounts rely on OIL. Without oil the worlds economy shuts down and we become Darfur.

The TRUTH is that the invasion of Iraq was legal. Any member nation can enforce UN Resolutions.

The TRUTH is Iran (like N. Korea) is making noise and speaking loudly because they have NO stick.

The TRUTH is Mr Putin is owed a lot of money by Iran. He has his own problems.

The TRUTH is that this will all continue until the next generation of energy is available to all here.

The TRUTH is that at that time no one will give a rats rear about the Middle East. They have money and can build their own economy.....or dry up in the sun.

The TRUTH is that the US, Russia and China need each other, will bicker like brothers and then make up...over and over and over.

The TRUTH is that the worlds economy is fragile. Oil closed a little over $89 per barrel today. Why? Because futures are being traded like oil is water and the devalued dollar after the last fed rate cut adds to the mix. All oil trades must be paid for in US dollars.

The TRUTH is that the US Treasury Bonds owned by the Chinese govt. are mostly the personal savings of Chinese Citizens. Not having the credit cards, car loans, personal loans and home Mortgages to derive income from Chinese Banks MUST go outside the country to get the interest they pay to depositors.

The TRUTH is it is about oil, but it is much more complicated than that simple statement.

The TRUTH is it is the last chance for these people to stand up and become a working and viable part of this planet. If they fail there will be hell to pay.

I've said it before; the reason we are at war in Iraq is a family vendetta between the Bush Family and Saddam Hussein.

Daddy didn't go after him in the first Iraqi war and he lost face and was ridiculed in the press.

George junior made it a priority when he came to office that he would find a way to get even with Saddam for showing up daddy.

He used 9/11 as an excuse to go in. When Saddam was captured, the hand gun Saddam had with him was rapidly transported to the White House as a war trophy and I suppose that he presented it to daddy as a present.

"Good boy."

g-day!

we went in to disarm Saddam of the weapons we know he used on his own people, and shot into Israel. We also probably went in to squeeze Iran a little more passably preventing war with them some were down the road. We no Iran is the worlds largest provider to terrorists. An was behind the 223 marines that were killed in Lebanon.

no wmd were found and now the plan backfired. Iran is fighting a proxy war with us. We don't want to leave b/c the land will be taken by terrorists making terrorists rich with Iraqi oil and making Iran far more power full than it is.

There are numerous reasons. They change depending on who you are speaking with and what their political worldview is. However, I feel the need to point out that we are at war in 2 different places and for 2 vastly different reasons.

Afghanistan - This is truly the war on terror. Al Queda used the country as a stronghold and safe haven.

Iraq - Take your pick
1) Removing a despot (Saddam Hussein) who constantly violated UN sanctions and cease fire agreements
2) Searching for WMDs
3) Attempting to spread Democracy
4) Protecting the world's oil supply
5) Stealing the world's oil supply
6) Fighting terrorists
7) Avenging the failure of Bush Sr. to finish the job in 91.

Like I said take your pick, there are numerous reasons and all probably have some validity on one level or another, but one thing you can be sure of. We would not be at war in Iraq if the country did not have oil.
