thats one of the best observations of modern mankind.
i mean, if i go around saying i'm jesus, you'll say i'm nuts.
but if 200 years from now, a bunch of people get together and decide i'm jesus, then it'll be religion :P

Firmly disagree!
In the most recent Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, a delusion is defined as:
A false belief based on incorrect inference about external reality that is firmly sustained despite what almost everybody else believes and despite what constitutes incontrovertible and obvious proof or evidence to the contrary. The belief is not one ordinarily accepted by other members of the person's culture or subculture.
on the other hand, religions present a common quality, the division of the world in two comprehensive domains, one sacred, the other profane. Religion is often described as a communal system for the coherence of belief focusing on a system of thought. Moral codes, practices, values, institutions, tradition, rituals, and scriptures are often traditionally associated with the core belief, and these may have some overlap with concepts in secular philosophy. Religion is also often described as a "way of life". Not a way of thinking.

Depends on the religion. Some of them could classify as delusions, yes.
By that defintion, the logic would follow, however, that an agreed upon "fact" could be called delusion. So the laws of science are also delusions? Think about that.

I like the "cult, until it has clout" answer
Many people will question the use of the word "delusion".
I question the word delusion. Why not belief? If it's a delusion, that means it's not true and many people would be insane

Well, I believe that religion is built upon many peoples faith in that concept. I agree it's delusion. Why should one persons delusion be called insanity if they chose to view their life as such

"When the majority of people suffer from a delusion its called reality."

I believe it is science vs religion again. They will never get along sadly. I LOVE biology (evolution, viruses, bacteria) but also believe in God, Jesus, saints, etc. I am in the middle of the road and like it. I don't lean to either side more , like I'm not saying " God made humans like that *bam* human." Nor am I saying "I cant see God, so he isn't there". I don't agree with the quote because, whats the harm in believing in God? If you right, then you get a bonus. If your wrong, then what? You loose an hour every weekend? wah...

No, I do not. There are many kinds of delusions and they do not all center around one spiritual path or lack of one.

Who is the quote from? It would be interesting to know. I do not mind the quote but can see where people would be upset by it. But I'm not. :-)
