The Anthrax shots have been given for years before the Army decided to give it to the troops. It is quite common for those in the cattle industry or veterinarians to get the shots so they do not catch anthrax.
However, the shots are intended to defend against cutaneous anthrax, meaning anthrax caught through exposure to skin. It was never tested against airborne anthrax spores that you would see with a biological weapon.
But, they have nothing else. NADA. ZIP. It is either use the current anthrax vaccine or nothing. Even if it gives 50% protection, that is 50% of the troops that will NOT die if the enemy uses anthrax as a weapon. And that is how you have to look at it.
The Army has to protect as many of the troops as it can the best that it can. If it did not immunize the troops it would give any enemy that had weaponized anthrax a weapon that would be effective against 100% of the troops. And that would actually encourage its use. Where they may not be willing to use a weapon that would kill only half of the troops, knowing the other half would go for a kill, they might be willing to use a weapon if it killed ALL of the enemy troops.
Of course, they have no consideration for their own people. So if they wiped out a million of them to kill 200,000 American troops, they would call that a fair exchange and call those who died martyrs for the cause, even if they did not want to die.
As far as the individual, some are going to have some pretty severe reactions but that is one of the prices of service. You have to look at the big picture and realize individuals are just part of it.

they ought to have given your hubby a pamphlet along with his Anthrax shot. See if he has this and what advice they provide. i replaced into already pregnant while my husband won his shot and there replaced into no longer project in any appreciate approximately that distinctive one. The smallpox; in spite of the indisputable fact that, they administered at the same time as he replaced into downrange by way of linked risks. All guidance I even have seen on the Anthrax shot applies just to the interplay of the shot with the female. See the hyperlink under, because of the fact here quote replaced into stumbled on on that website: "The vaccine is a cellular-unfastened filtrate, which potential it makes use of lifeless micro organism as adversarial to stay micro organism. that's a sterile product produced from a stress of the anthrax organism that would not reason sickness" the certainty that the shot makes use of lifeless micro organism leads me to have faith that it's going to no longer be volatile on your project. i replaced into in all probability a splash apprehensive on the time, yet I also have a candy little woman now, and it relatively is all solid! suitable desires, take solid care of your self whether or no longer you develop into pregnant till now he is going!

I've had six antrhax shots since I've been in the service. They will burn, but you already know that by now, and you might see a small bump on your arm. This usually goes away in 1-3 days. There is all this negative hype against antrhax, but its just hype.
Read the pamphlets that they had out with the shot so if you are that 1 in 100,000 that has an adverse affect, you know how to reconginze it and deal with it.
They've been giving this shot out since the 1960 (Maybe 70's) and if there was anything dangerous with it, it would have been banded a long time ago.

What they were intended to do, immunize you against getting sick with anthrax by allowing your body to build up anti-anthrax bodies within your system. No harm will come to you, a few people may have a reaction, but this is an exception, instead of the rule. Thanks soldier for serving the U.S. in Iraq. Your service to this nation is greatly appreciated!

They will not harm you. They are not fun and your arm will hurt but that is something that soldiers are expected to deal with.
The biggest effect of your getting the shots is that it makes it less likely that an enemy will try to use bacteriological warfare - thus by getting those shots you are helping to protect everybody in the world.

Hopefully nothing...I had a reaction after my first one and had to get a red tag to make sure I didn't get anymore. My throat started to close up. Luckily I got to the doctor quick enough and they helped me out.
Anthrax is like any other shot...it is to help build immunity to anthrax.

Make you sick (like a bad flu, or worse) or make your arm sore and hurt like a summa-b*tch for about a week. Not as bad as the small pox deal. A dime sized whole in your shoulder that slowly rots and heals for a few weeks and smells like a*s (while being highly contagious).

once your body has learned how to defend against, and kill a bug, it no longger is effected by it or isnt effected as bad. a flue shot is a small amount of dmged flu viruses and your body will kill them and thus, you wont get the flu. same for anthrax.

I don,t know I had them too. But the military stopped giving them out. Some say that it works as an antibody, But what ever it does . the military has always used its soldiers as Ginnie pigs. Look at the testing they did w/soldiers in the french Polynesian islands.
