yes. But you lived through it.

Take a hot bath and have a strong drink.

skip the bath, skip the strong drink.......You said "tonight was different we had to go to the basement" This is indication sudden movement. which means you were ripped from your element so rapidly that you had no idea what was going on. Believe you me, this has happened to me before. nothing like the first time.

"Even the sound of the sirens send me over the edge". I had this same sentiment. The sirens would never bother me before either.

don't ever rush to the basment with others, go when you are ready to go. a tornado is not supposed to creep up on you. you should know when one is close by.

you may have a deep understanding for tornados. if i were you, in all, sincerity, i would go talk to a psychatrist asap. your heart is not supposed to pound that fast just because of a tornado.

The same thing happened to me when i was 5 or 6 and i am still not the same. actually i love tornados now. i understand what their purpose is.

It sounds like it. Is this a regular occurrence, or it is just something brought on by the tornadoes? It's pretty normal for something so serious to cause you to panic, so if you don't get the attacks any other time, I would say just try to calm down however you do it best, a bath, a drink, reading a book... and it will pass. However, if it happens regularly, and it really affects your day to day life, I would think about talking to a doctor about it.

Sounds like a major anxiety attack. You might want to see someone about it to rule out anything more serious - you never know.

If you hate tornadoes so much, I suggest you move somewhere that doesn't have them. There are lots of beautiful places outside of tornado alley.

no, not quite a panic attack. but sure is close.

durin hurricane ivan in my area, a tree fell in the middle of my house. and i was literally panicing. and since i was realllll little ive had panic attacks. but urs doesnt sound like one.
u might have hyperventalated.
the way to control that is to take deep breaths, slowly, control your breathing. count to 10. close your eyes. and alwayss remember to relax. i rememeber my dad always telling me to relax when that happened. and thats all u can do.
but if it happens again, but worse, u might could go see a doctor and he will give you some nerve pills. thats what i take, still. cuase i have anxiety too. but just relax, always remember that.

i hope thing come out good in the future. :D

a panic attack is mostly for no discernible reason.
you on the other hand had every reason to be terrified. When I was little a freak twister breezed through the pool where my brother and I were swimming. Umbrellas and grit were flying everywhere.
Try next time to pull on your ear lobes- stare at your feet and keep them moving . or stand up and walk around and shake your hands vigorously. It helps get the adrenaline outta your system. and deep breath through your nose.

no just fear. Hon, panick attacks usually come w/out warning and make no sense. When I have one i get all shaky and start crying...for no reason. It used to be bad when i was younger but I go a while w/out having one. Sometimes I can sense one coming on. When this happens I pray and ask the Lord to calm my nerves. Just take a deep breath and try to reason out of it. I try to keep myself buys and not worry about it.

No, this is not a panic attack.

I've already felt that feeling, its like you can almost hear your heartbeat and you pant like a dog.

I don't know what it is but the only thing you can do about it is to keep crying until you fall asleep. When you wake up, it's already gone.

yes that was and thats good you see that, now you KNOW that you can handle them in the future and it should be the same way, just wait them out and know you should do ok within a few minutes to hours, and you'll be ok! lots of people get them and just remember you are stronger than that feeling and hopefully this will help!

There is a natuarl herb call 5HTP you can buy at GNC or other health store...if you take 3-5 of them when you are really stressed out, they will calm you and relax you as if you've taken prozac or zoloft or something
