I'm 16-I went to the dentist for the first time in about 10 years when I was about 14 or 15 (haven't been again since), and I was guessing I'd have a lotta cavities cuz I hadn't been in so long, but I didn't have ANY.

When I was younger I didn't do the greatest job brushing my teeth. I mean, just like any normal kid, brushing my teeth wasn't my favorite thing to do! lol But I guess I wasn't HORRIBLE at it...

CONT. BELOW IN DETAILS.

A year and a half ago I got braces. Ever since then I brush my teeth A LOT more. Now I brush them up to 4 times a day. VERY RARELY do I brush them less than 2. Usually it's about 3 times a day though. I brush them good, and my orthodontist says I have good hygiene. Tonight I was examining my teeth very closely, and noticed something that just looks like a little black dot on the top of one of my bottom teeth (towards the back, like the second tooth from the back). I took a needle and moved it around that area to make sure it wasn't something ON my tooth. I don't think it is. If it is, it didn't come off! It didn't hurt when I touched it with the needle.

Do you think it's a cavity?!

So I was re-reading my question and it definitely made me laugh when I read "I brush them good".

lol

Go and make an appointment to see your dentist since he is the only one who can really tell if it is a cavity or not.

Since you haven't had any cavities previously, and you have been a diligent brusher (perhaps too much!), then the spot you see is most likely some simple staining in the grooves of your teeth. It will do no harm and does not need intervention.
If an orthodontist see something suspicious while they are doing your braces, they will refer you back to your general dentist for a fuller examination.
Relax, I'm sure everything is fine.

There is no way to know if this is a cavity or not. You need to see your dentist. I hope you are seeing your dentist every 6 months now like you are supposed to. If you are due for your 6 month checkup soon you can wait and have the dentist check it then but if your 6 month check up is a long way off see the dentist and get it checked out.

Well, ... there isn't any real way I can tell if it is. All I can say is, when you go brush your teeth again, go brush that spot, and try to get it off if you can. If it doesn't come off, next time you go see your orthadontist, then ask him to check it. :)

Good luck.
