Most papers in North America are made from pines and their relatives. Also, most paper mills in North America use trees from tree farms that have been planted specifically for harvest.
Trees grow at different rates: some very slowly and some very quickly.

Trees smaller than eight inches in diameter, or bigger trees not good enough for lumber get cut for papermaking.
Hardwood trees (Oak) have a higer density than Softwoods (Polplar) so it would take less hardwood trees but I think they take longer to grow.

We can enjoy looking at trees that are hundreds of years old. It's a crime to cut these beautiful things down. Fortunately we've learned to "re-cycle " paper and wood etc. and make synthetics. You're first year studying science should have taught you that we depend on trees to kill our carbon dioxide and supply us with fresh oxygen. Why do we kill the very thing that keeps us alive?
