Not really.
What will make you lose weight faster is to get your heart rate going.
If you notice that your pulse is faster after working out with the people on TV then use that. If you notice walking on your own get you're pulse moving, then do that.
However,
If you're trying to lose weight you should not walk normaly, you should be doing a brisk walk.
You should do about half an hour of cardio (increasing your heart rate) a day.
What would be good about doing the guided work outs on TV is that it will use other muscles that you don't normaly use when just walking. This will help you tone up a bit.
What worked for me when I first started working out to drop some lbs was 30min cardio a day and about 10-15 min with weights.
I now work out for 1-2hours a day 5 days a week.
Working out gets your endorphines going. So, on top of looking great, you will feel better inside and (hopefully you aren't too young) will even be more sexual!

If you're just starting out, watch the video a few times to get ideas for extra things to do on your walks, then head outside armed with an iPod. Make sure to make a playlist with fast, fun, and catchy songs. Keep up with the music.
Kick it up a notch:
Walk 5 min. Jog until you feel like you can't anymore, then walk until you feel like you could jog some. Repeat, Repeat, Repeat, etc. until you reach 30 minutes. Try to work your way to 45 minutes or 60 minutes of jogging without rest. take 1 or 2 (non-consecutive) days off each week.

It is better to walk on your own. When you are on your own you will keep walking if you feel the urge. With the TV, you will only walk while the show is on. You probably won't rewind the show to walk further.
If it is a nice day, you will be glad that you are out of the house too.

You have got to do the moves they do. For example they over emphasize the moves they do so that when you do the exact same thing, as easy or hard or even as stupid as it may look and seem it will work better for you and your body. Besides your in your own home so do all the rqadical movements and feel the burn baby!

Actually getting outside in the fresh aiir and walking with your head up and breathing deeply. With a nice pace and taking in lots of fresh air helps to speed up your motabalism.
