I wouldn't jump the gun on this, you will get dozens of settlement offers on a written off or seriously delinquent debt. I would counter offer 25% of the balance. Make sure you get the settlement letter in writing before paying the settled agreement, some companies will try to come after the remainder, even after you've settled.

If you go to guru.com and do some jobs you can have at least half that by the 31st. You can call the people who wrote you the letter and tell them that you can send them half by the 31st and the other half by the 15th. You can always find a job and work it short-term just to make enough money to pay off the debt. Don't borrow for it - it's a better lesson for you to earn it, and also that way it won't cost you anything extra, and then you probably will never fall into the debt trap again. Good luck!

you may attempt haggling, that is continually worth a attempt, Ihave heard of human beings effectively knocking 1/2 the debt off. if you're saying you may both pay £four hundred finished now or the finished quantity in £20 in conserving with month installments, it then relies upon on their organization coverage even if or not they opt for to watch for all of it or have the lump sum now. Your 'relax' attitude is what were given you into this mess!!

If you are in collections, as it appears you are, you won't be getting a new credit card any time soon.
What can you afford to pay? Can you put a big chunk down and make payments over the next few months? Then contact them and offer that.
One word of advice. Do not pay them a cent, do not send them your bank account info, do not give them anything, until you have a written offer in hand that you agree with.

I dont know if you ever checked your credit ratings anytime. It is always a good idea to keep track of your credit history once a year. Please try to get your credit report TODAY from one of the credit bureaus. Take 10 mins to read & understand the report and it'll help you see the improvements or possible downside in your credit history.
To get your free report check out www.annualcreditreport.com
Please continue to make atleast the minimum payments or anything higher than the minimum.(Best bet is to pay as much as you can).

Call them up and negotiate. You have nothing to lose on the phone call. You seem to have lost control of the situation, so why not.
Get another credit card? You credit score is probably so low right now, that you might not be able to get another credit card. They would prefer to deal with you than send this to collections.

Start saving now. Take a second job to get the money. Offer em the money when you get it. They will take it 2 months from now. Or 3 months.
Get it in writting and NO electronic access to your checking account. Send a cashiers check.
