Looks like you got an average cross-section of the ignorance rampant in this section of Yahoo Answers.

I hope they are correct. That would mean I only have four years or so th endure, then I can sleep.

Let's see if it's true. Judaism, Islam, and Christianity are all looking for changes in the way the world is. They are all expecting a great man to rise up and lead the world. Sincerely.

The difference is that much of Christianity, including me, is agreeing with the prophecy in that the world itself will change for the worse first. But the Jews and the Muslims are looking for a man to be a leader to be listened to. The Christians are not. The Christians believe that the world will seem hellish for about seven years.

And the 'great man' who is supposed to be so well liked by the whole world?

The Antichrist! But everyone will love him. Everybody except for the Christians who will be left here on Earth because they became Christian after they found out that the other Christians were right. They were Raptured at the time that the 'great' man became a main figure on Earth.

So the Mayan prophecy shows that another civilization was somehow tied in to this truth. And I suspect that the Mayans themselves didn't come up with it. For there was a mysterious band of men ( Toltecs ) , who showed up where they were, and may also have been responsible for building their pyramid (Chichen Itza ) - as there was a mysterious band of men
( Hycsos ) , who showed up to build the Great Pyramid
( So called 'Khufu' or 'Cheops' pyramid ) in Egypt.

The tendency of modern archaeologists is to not to go into the mysteries of those ancient peoples. They disregard the fantastic things they did as 'myths', but there are still many unexplained things which baffle them because they won't believe it.

I wish I could tell you more. But I think that I answered your question already. This world has so much to discover, but doubt will make us miss those things!

yes i do.... it is said to be that the age of aquarius will start around then. we have just come out of another age and are moving towards the aquarius age. it is also said that the indigo children were put on this planet to raise its vibration and that will cause a dimensional shift which is what the mayans predict will happen on the 21 of dec 2012 at 11.11a.m. however, nostradamus predictions show that the world will end that day or the world as we know it will end that day...his predictions also state something like an asteroid hitting earth or nuclear bombings on earth around that time period.

No. Although I do find it amazing that their calendars are almost just like ours, that they studied the stars and planets, and even predicted their own demise by the Spanish.

I have a hard time believing any end-time prediction, regardless of how sophisticated the culture.

I believe that indeed, the Age of Aquarius will start around that time.

Surely you realize that's why the Mayan calendar ends then?

Mayans had Prophets? Thats a First.

Well, first thing, it's not a prophecy. It's simply when that CYCLE of their calendar is planned to end, and at the end of that cycle, they was predicted there would be "great changes in the world". Well no duh! Is our world, with all it's technology, anything like the world the Mayans who created the calendar knew? Nope!

There you go, prophecy fulfilled. Next question.

like i noticed toad also said, that's just the end of the age of Pisces, and then beginning the age of Aquarius.

it refers to the zodiac that the sun is currently "in"

to simplify, each "age" takes 2150 years. Christianity was the religion to cover Pisces.... notice how alot of Jesus fish proliferate? Pisces= fish.

Umm, what prophecy would that be?

The Mayans had a cyclic calender. 2012 is the end/start of a cycle.

Care to post what the Mayans prophesied would happen?
