My brother rescued pitbull dogs and ended up having 3 girls and 2 boys. The girls were pregnant and oh my did we have a ton of puppies. When the first one began to have babies it went in the coziest place possible. My brothers kept an eye on them but happened to be asleep when she gave birth to the first puppy. The other dogs began to make a lot of noise as soon as the puppy was born and that is how they found out that she was giving birth. They do a lot of heavy breathing. My brother's would massage her tummy to help her give birth. They did this with all 3 females.
Massage her tummy gently.
you need to to have a nice warm comfy place for her to give birth in. Get some paper towel's ready too.
Put some pillows around her little nest and her food and water not to close. In fact as soon as she starts to give birth take the food and water away so she will remain laying down and continue to give birth. Don't worry about the placenta stuff cause the mama dog eats that.
We ended up with 22 cute pit bull puppies! yes I took many pictures and spent a lot of time with them all. So I have experience as well.
Here I like looking on youtube for answers and videos

I know it makes me mad when I people have to put crap like that on your questions. I don't care about peoples opinion just asking for tips and advice that helps. Don't pay attention to those idiots. Just enjoy the wonderful miracle that you have in your hands.
Hope this helps
I am so excited for you!
Good Luck!
Hope to see some pictures

A dogs gestation period is between 59-66 days, so try and work out how long ago she was mated, if she has started nesting though and her nipples are swollen she could give birth within the next couple of days/weeks, if her nipples are leaking milk when you squeeze them gently this is another sign that puppy's are soon on there way, because she has had puppy's in the past she knows what she's doing, so when the time comes try and leave her to it, in a quiet comfortable place and only intervine if you can see she is having difficulties, Good luck.

A dog's gestation is 63 days from first cover so you know your dog is getting very close.
When I was raising dogs I liked to have a whelping box. What this means is building a box that is slightly raised in the air with an outter box about 4 - 6" out side of the raised box. The purpose of this is so that if the pup gets squished it will slip under the board and be protected. The mother will then safely bring the pup back to the box when it cries.
We used to put one or two moving blankets on the flour under the whelping box to create a nice bed for the dog then after the pups came we put paper on one side so that the puppies would eventually learn to go on the paper.
Most times dogs can whelp on their own but it's nice to be around and help out only if she needs the help.
Oh, just make sure you have the vets number on hand incase you need to call suddenly.
My one female always wanted help, she had large litters and would give birth to a pup, clean it up a bit then push it to me to dry off, stimulate it while she got busy with the next pup. It was quite funny, she didn't want the pups near her when she was busy whelping the next pup. Yet she was an excellent mother, never neglecting her babies, but always grateful when I came in so she could take a break.
Good luck to you, and hoping she has healthy pups without trouble.

Set up a huge cardboard box with one side cut out of it.
Place any padding that you can throw away later, like a piece of foam, and then place an old clean blanket folded on it.
The normal gestation time for a dog is nine weeks (63 days).
So set up the box now, as soon as possible, so that she is used to it and will nest in it. (That way you'll know when the puppies are born and where they are. She will still be
bloated after they are born, and you don't want to find them hidden in the laundry, or a closet.)

well my dog had puppies about 12 days ago and she looked just awful before birth (7 puppies) she did not bark she hardly stood up and was always sleeping.
This went on for about a week and then the sunday she gave birth. So if you observe these and other signs like nesting chances are it should be a few days to a week. But then again it was my dog's first litter so maybe she's a little different.
Hope it helps!

People need to be a bit nicer on these posts. There is nothing this person can do now that the dog is already pregnant. Lord, people need to get off the high horse.
Ok, so she'll be pregnant for 2 months...so I'd say she's very close. I'd make her comfortable by putting her in an enclosed area, one where she feels safe. Make sure there are lots of towels or soft blankets. Other than that she'll do it on her own. If there is more than an hour that she's straining to get a puppy out I'd worry and call a vet. Good luck, and here's a site that'll give you more info:

she is 8 weeks & you haven't had her to the vets at all???
get her there NOW. ASAP
here is the best information I've seen anywhere & yes get the kids pool for a whelping box now so she has time to get used to it
& then get her spayed as soon as the puppies are gone which should be 12 weeks

Dogs are pregnent for ~63 days so they are due any time. Hope you're a speed reader because you now have to cram 20 years of education about dog breeding into maybe twentyfour hours. Can you read 200 pages tonight? WHY didn't you get her SPAYED? DO you know where each and every one of these puppies are gonna spend the rest of their lives? Do you know that 90% of puppies allowed to be born by people like you who have NO clue DIE in shelters, accidents, or by intentional cruelty? Get her spayed. Call your local shelter for a low cost clinic if you must. But PLEASE stop making more work for euthanasia techs in shelters all over the country!

call your vet and have a talk with them, they can give you pointers for making her comfortable. You should have her checked out anyway. after she has her pups then get her spayed so this doesn't happen again. there are millions of unwanted puppies and dogs in shelters that are euthanized each year because irresponsible pet owners refuse to spay and neuter their pets.

A plastic swim pool with some blankets in it are what the breeders I know use for whelping as for what to do I have no idea. I know for raising the puppies I would get a book called "how to raise a puppy you can live with." And please get your dog fixed.
