The answer is obvious, but I want to know what you think.
Atheists and theists are welcome to answer.

Remember, if you lash out against theists or Muslims in Muslim countries, you'll be dead.
Here in the U.S, home of even the most fundamentalist Christians are, they still respect your rights to think and express your views, even if they disagree.

Is this a serious question?

Of course Christianity is much more tolerant to atheism than Islam. Muslims are not even tolerant of converts... say if someone converted from Islam to Christianity or Judaism. Forget atheism. Muslims in the west also want to change everything... they're offended by western culture, yet they choose to stay here.

Which individual person are we talking about?

Overall, worldwide, very probably Christianity. But there are major influential Christian groups right here in the United States that are every bit as involved in the demonizing of atheism as any Muslim anywhere.

"Here in the U.S, home of even the most fundamentalist Christians are, they still respect your rights to think and express your views, even if they disagree".

That's not true. The most fundamentalist Christians would censor atheism in a heartbeat, and are trying their best to do so, and are only prevented from doing so by the fact that the United States protects all of its citizens. It's not that Christianity is so much better than Islam: it's that the United States is so much better than Saudi Arabia, or Afghanistan, or Iran, or...

jefferso...,
the verse from Quran that you cited doesn't mean that you have to kill every one, who doesn't believe. It's very stupid to say that it means to kill all disbelievers.
"We shall cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve, because they joined others in worship with Allâh, for which He had sent no authority; their abode will be the Fire and how evil is the abode of the Zâlimûn (polytheists and wrong¬doers)." (Quran, 3:151)
Don't you see that it means that evildoers, non-believers will be in hell in hereafter? It's very obvious. Allah is merciful, compassionate, but Allah (God) is also just. Certainly, who does good things and worship Allah can't be judged like people who exploits others and oppresses innocent, weak men.
The other verse that you cited is that in whole:
" (Remember) when your Lord revealed to the angels, "Verily, I am with you, so keep firm those who have believed. I will cast terror into the hearts of those who have disbelieved, so strike them over the necks, and smite over all their fingers and toes." (Quran, 8:12)
It means Allah in hell will reveal to angels to strike evildoers and oppressors. Do you think that God has to reward and put them to his paradise, together with people who were killing innocent muslims In Palestine, Afghanistan, Iraq, Africa, Vietnam, who bombed Japan, with nuclear weapons. If you think so, that is very wrong.

I don't think that christianity is more tolerate to Atheism. History displays that a lot of scientist were killed inquisition courts in middle ages. Priests were enemy of science and also atheism. Some of this scientist, such as Copernik were atheists. They all were killed. But in Islam says to fight only in case if they make evil. For example, when Makkah was conquested by first muslims, Propeht Muhammed's (PBUH) army, the keys of Kabah (islam's sacred land) belonged to Uthman ibn Talha, who was non-believer. Everyone expected that he'll take keys from him and give they to his companions. But it wasn't so, he returned it to Uthman, and he was suprised. Islamic governments always followed the same. In Islamic Caliphate in 13th century, head of the Caliphate was Mamun. In his time head of Mathematical department of sciences was a blaspemous.
It shows that Islam is more tolerate. You can read history books of Islam and Christianity. You'll see these, which I mentioned above and more facts about christianity and atheism.
But if, the question will the who are more tolerate, contemporary christians or muslims, I'll probably answer christians. Islam and muslim in modern world unfortunately are very seperated from each other.

Hi... I am a Muslim. I just wanted to answer based on what I know (and I'm not an expert on any religion) but here's what I understand. Unfortunately, I can't say it's good to judge Islam based on the actions of Muslims today because we often forget what our scripture tells us.

However, this is what I know (just a small part) from the Qur'aan which teaches Muslims how to interact and act with those of other faiths. This is what the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) did with the idol-worshippers of his time.

Say you, O those who cover up/conceal (the truth)!
I worship not that you worship.
And nor do you worship what I worship.
And I shall not worship what you worshiped.
And nor you shall worships what I worship.
(Then) for you is your religion. and for me is my religion.
(Quran: 1o9: 1-6)

Simple as that. We cannot expect everyone to accept or agree with our beliefs but God tells us if we try and someone does not accept, this is what we should say to them. To you is your religion and to me is mine (and leave the matter in a peaceful way.)

As usual, it depends.

Honestly, in America, probably Islam, because they're not negotiating from a position of strength. Islam and atheism seem to find themselves as those strange bedfellows as minority religious views in a majority Christian country.

Worldwide, probably Christianity, due to the large proportion of Christians living in more or less liberal democracies.

peace be upon you

First, to answer this question clearly you have to know the following:
- What is the meaning of deity?
- What is evidence for diety existence?
- How can you reach to believe?

The meaning of Diety is the creator of this universe and of all things (either you know or not know it), and the able to do all things. Diety gives, protect, support, , care, and sustain human and all of His creatures.

Then Diety is the most supreme above not only Human but also all of the earth and heavens.... It is a self-evident because He is the first and no one before Him.

Allâh is the All-Provider, Owner of Power, the Most Strong.

When you know that your Diety have a great knowledge and have a great ability to create and to regulate relations between all of the creatures due each creature's nature (Diety knows it), you believe that He is the only one have that right to be worshipped. None has the right to be worshipped but He, the All-Knower of the unseen and the seen (open), the Holy, the One Free from all defects, the Giver of security, the Watcher over His creatures, the All-Mighty, the Compeller, the Supreme. The Creator, the Inventor of all things, the Bestower of forms.

When you see all of the universe components and how they work, synchronize, and cohere to save you and save your life secure - You have to believe that there is One only Lord Who creates the whole universe.

There is no any possiblity to be another one with him, if so the consistency of the universe might work wrong.
if there had been (other) gods with Him, they would certainly have sought out a way to the Lord of the Throne!
If there were, in the heavens and the earth, other gods besides Allah, there would have been confusion in both! But glory to Allah, the Lord of the Throne: (High is He) above what they attribute to Him!

In Management sciences, the leader of the organization have to be one - to lead a boat you have to be one captain. If you don't do this, the organization will be interrupted - the boat will sink.

Then what do you think aboput this huge, and wide universe. It must be one God to lead and to be worshipped.

Islam tells people this message by very clear understanble words. Islam have no any obligation to even think, you are free all the time and also you will be given as you exactly work and think.

Islam is the peace, it is not like you say never. Person have to build his view on solid base of good knowledge.

Jesus was a Muslim human. Jesus, peace be upon him, is the messenger of Allah. Muslim and Islam means that the cmplete submission to Allah, complete and absolute worshipping of Allah Subhanahu Wa Tala.

How can you reach to believe?

See to your food, your drink (water), your garden, your plants , your trees, your home, fire, seas, land, clouds, sun, moon, your family, your babies..... How all of these have a great nature and great composition - of course no human can made like these. Human only try to mimc the nature and nature is already created in the best form by Allah Subhanahu Wa Tala, human try to be adapted with his environment to live happy only - but the great creator have a different wise.

Like the great components nature you deal with, the great diety, Allah Subhanahu Wa Tala Is, but more and more. We just try to reach more deep faith and love of Allah Subhanahu Wa Tala.

Here is some words I wish it will be helpful for you

Why Islam?

Absolutely, Islam is the right which is deserved completely for Allah Subhanah wa Ta'la. The reason is that Allah Subhanah wa Ta'la created human to worship him only, and This is also for jinn.

To take an example from our life, And For Allah the Highest example:
When you make something and put its function for yourself by a clear and determined way because you know well its nature, will you accept the alteration in this function?

Why Human need Islam?

1-Islam tells you that you will live two times , not only one, but to keep your safety and happiness of the second time you have to good deal in the first time. Islam gives you the way map that you have to go, this is for all human being and not specified for certain layer.

2-Islam tells you the ideal way to keep happiness in the first time of life, this great religion arranges both the big and small events in the human life. It can be seen in the fine coordination between human recognition of himself, human relation with his Deity, and human relations with all other people.

3-Islam gives human all what he/she needs to be a vital member, from A to Z. These needs of his life constituents is of a high goodness food and drink materials, home and dressing, and fine life styles. All are with a path that assure human welfare, either he is as one individual or a group of people.

4-Islam means a relation that human cannot never live without it, a relation with his creator Allah Subhanah wa Ta'la. If we see the real fact that there is no one can tolerate to live lonely faraway a group of people, what do you think about his relation with the only great Deity who is nearer to human more than himself!

Actually, neither are very tolerant. From what I have seen, read, and heard, they're pretty similar in their contempt for those who disagree with their beliefs. The difference is Christians can only fantasize about putting us in prisons or forcibly converting us, while the Muslims actively harass, imprison or execute non-believers.

People are people no matter what religion (or the lack there of) so you have to see what each religion says ...

Surah 109. The Disbelievers, Atheists

1. Say : O ye that reject Faith!

2. I worship not that which ye worship,

3. Nor will ye worship that which I worship.

4. And I will not worship that which ye have been wont to worship,

5. Nor will ye worship that which I worship.

6. To you be your Way, and to me mine.

True christianity- and not the man-made version of christianity that many people practice today- doesn't even belong on that list.
