Shred everything that has your personal information on it. Then make sure all the paper is recycled (shredded and unshredded). To figure out if you need to save it use the link below.

Yeah, I don't have a shredder handy so my mom tears off the parts with personal information (name, address, bank acct #) and burns them in an ash tray LOL...... and dumps the rest in the trash can. I also got that habit from her and, even though I also think that not many people would bother to go through trash just to find names and other data (especially in my country where people are not used to separating trash and thus paper and everything else gets mixed with food and nasty stuff), I still have this idea that I shouldn't just dump these papers without taking away the important, personal info first. Sometimes I flush those little pieces down the toilet, too.....

If you're cleaning up and want to get rid of only paper, just get a special bag for this only purpose and throw all of the papers you don't need in here..... that way you won't take up a lot of space from the "regular" trash and since paper is recyclable someone might wanna give it a good use. Just make sure to remove staples, paper clips and that stuff which could interfere with the recycling, and compact the paper as much as you can so as to not take more space than necessary. We all need to do this cleaning from time to time and I also hate it, but it needs to be done...... In fact I just did some of it a while ago with my papers from the bank. Good luck!

Shredding documents with private or confidential information such as your name, address, date of birth, serial numbers, credit card numbers and other personal information is a very sensible thing to do, and yes I ALWAYS do it.

Personal shredders are very inexpensive and cheap to run. Just do a few pages at a time, say 10 every night until the bulk are gone, then do them as you need to after that.

And, if you put the shredded paper in the recycling binb, they won't fill the trash up!

Cheers :-)

I shred anything I no longer need that has my name on it. People do go through trash looking for those things and you can end up with someone else having credit in your name.

you would be suprised at who goes through trash. Their are people out there that go through trash purposely looking for peoples information to sell. Shred anything that has your bank, credit card, social security, or any other legal information that links itself to you. That includes bills. IF you want to save them gather whats important and organize it in a file cabinet or folder. If you dont want it SHRED IT...my parents do that too and so do me and my husband. It is alot harder to track someone using your social security number or bank info if they have everything else also.

i do. i may just remove the part that has my name on it if it is a credit application then i recycle the rest. if it has my information throughout it i shred the whole thing. i would just shred them a little at a time and dispose of them in the trash.

I shred almost everything. credit card apps, old checkstubs, bank statements...if it has my name and address on it...shred! For the time and inconvenience that it may cost you now for diligence, it far outweighs the alternative of spending weeks, months, or even years to restore your credit and finances should someone use your information for shenanigans!
