I got a job a few weeks ago.I haven't started officially working yet, because I've been doing drug testing and all this paperwork.I have school from 8:00 AM-5:30 PM, in my application I put down that I would work from 6:00-10:00 PM. My only problem is in all the time it takes me to catch my bus and change in to my uniform, I have realized that their is just no way that I can start at 6:00,without being late.I'll be talking to my manager on Monday to give him my work permit, but my question is would it sound bad if I told him on Monday that I can't start at 6 and would be better if I started at 6:30 instead?
Does that make me look bad since I haven't officially started work? Do you think I would lose this job? My manager is very nice but I'm just scared to tell him that. Please Help! Thanks.

I need the money for college.Plus it took almost two years to get a job.To give up now before I had even started would be a waste. So that's not an option.

What would be worse is if you didn't tell him at all and showed up late all the time and lost all credibility. How late is the store open? When I was in high school, I worked from 7 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Just be honest with the manager. He'll appreciate that you were upfront with him.

Telling your manager that you don't think you can make it on time is WAY better than just not showing up on time!

Talk to him and tell him that you recently realized this fact, but don't know what to do about it. He will have a solution. It's not like you lied before, since you didn't really have a handle on your schedule when you filled out the application.

So what if you lose the job. I'm sure you can get a similar job somewhere else. You haven't even started working there. Put your schooling first. It's not like if you have a great deal of time invested in that job. Find another one if things don't work out.
