Lately it seems that so many people are hating Christians. If you hate Christians, please be brutal in your response, only anger will display your true feelings. If you are a Christian, like me, please give your opinion.

My problem is that, there is no religious tolerance anymore, people are becoming forceful about their religions. But still, why do so many people hate Christians?

Note to "LIFE IS ILLUSIVE"

You are saying that Christians are crazy and basically stupid/gullible for believing in certain things, but you preach that aliens are amongst us. Im sorry but that is the most bullshit thing I have ever heard on Yahoo Answers. Normally I wouldn't comment on you like this, but what is wrong with you?

Maybe because there is so much bitterness, hate, and greed in so many people. They are miserable with themselves and everyone in general, but with practicing Christians, in particular, because, through all the upheaval and misery, Christians cling to their faith and are not wavering. For some reason, this infuriates non-Christians, who believe if they can belittle the faith of others it will somehow make them feel less empty. I say this after many years of watching human nature. It always seems to me that people who denigrate and oppose so vehemently do so out of jealousy. Some reply that is because of some Christians who espouse a distorted view of Christian belief. If this is true, then why does not everyone accuse the entire Islamic faith based on the ravings of Osama Bin Laden? Because not everyone judges them according to Bin Laden lunacy, that's why. And not everyone judges Christianity according to the fanatically religious, either. But for those who do "despise" Christianity, I stand by my initial assessment. Who are you to despise anyone?

I have found that the people who generally ask this question seem to always flash past all the hating that gets done to everyone else.

Me, I don't hate Christians or Christianity, I do on the other hand hate bigots of all stripes. Any heated things that I have said to or about Christians or Christianity have usually been in response to some incredibly stupid, insensitive and overtly bigoted thing that a Christian claimant has made.

I'm mainly annoyed by them. Within my group of friends there are some that are religious but not Christian, some that are not religious, some that I would could call pseudo-Christian and finally my super crazy Christian friends. I use the word crazy because their strong religious belief overwhelms me; they believe in it more than they believe in some other things like treating everyone with respect. Obviously I don't hate them (since I'm friends with them still) but I find it frustrating when they don't accept other people's beliefs. Not that I need to have my beliefs acknowlegded as valid by other people, but I would at least like them respected. I am also kind of annoyed with the supposed moral high ground that comes with being Christian and how are certain behaviours are described as being Christian. While I don't mind anyone striving to be a better person, I wish that people (my friends in particular) would recognize that being Christian is not symonyous with being good. It annoys me to no end that behaviour that I do volunteering, giving blood, giving money, etc is described as Christian when I have absolutely no ties to that religion.

I also dislike the railroading of the government and the postulation that we live in a Christian nation. I have as claim to being here as you do, the whole nation is not Christian! I dislike the us above all others mentality, while obviously it is important for a person to believe that their religion is the best and truest, is it too much to ask for people to recognize that I don't and leave me to live my life as I will. With abortion if I want one, stem cells if I need them, and if I so decide, the ability to legally marry my girlfriend and all that nasty stuff?

As as side note I live in Ontario, where the religious divisions are roughly 33% Christian, 33% Catholic and 33% other. Surely it is no great feat of mathematics to recognize that there is no majority religion any more?

There is an excellent reason. Look for the question "are fundamentalists / bible thumpers aware of the hatred they cause?" or something like that.

I was once Christian and now am not. It's amazing the difference in attitude. Christians used to be sweet, loving, wonderously kind people (in general) because I was IN, because I was to be saved, whatever. So, as a Christian, I couldn't really understand why people hated Christians, it blew my mind.

When I grew out of the faith and decided to persue spirituality without the yoke of religion, things changed. No longer was I a being deserving of respect, I was a "lost sinner" who "needed to be saved." I was a "fool" who would "corrupt" them. Heck, I'm more moral now than I ever was as a Christian...

But being on the backside, it's much easier to see. And while I still respect and admire the soul of Christianity, I do utterly loathe what so many of them do, and have done, to myself, many others that I know, and thousands of pagans that I don't know. Athiests, too, but at least they're just "fools" instead of "fools" AND "satan worshippers." Uh huh, riiiight...

So... if Christians practice what they preached on non christians (you know, the respect and love parts) then they probably wouldn't be hated at all. Go into a group of pagans and tell em you're Christian... you'll likely get green/pale/red faces. Ask them why... they'll probably say, "Don't preach to me, don't convert me, I don't care what your bible says!!!!!"

When Christians disrespect, falsely accuse, and verbally assault non christians so often, it's easy for them to get hated. I know from experience most Christians aren't that way... but most Christians aren't very actively Christian at all, and certain others are nasty enough to non-Christians to traumatize enough for a thousand Christians.

I think it is because some have come across as so totally intolerant that it makes people mad. I am a Christian, and I can not STAND some of the uber-conservatives that speak out against EVERYTHING. Pat Robertson is a prime example of the type I am talking about. He has said some really hateful things on the air and it makes people think he speaks for all Christians, since he is on TV. I think that some people are just so "out there" it makes everyone look bad.

I don't hate Christians at all. In fact, I think the world of them; it's just that I meet so very few of them

Mostly what I meet (here and IRL) are selectively-observant pseudo-Jews who follow Paul

Selectively observant pseudo-Jews in that they ignore nearly all of the 613 commandments, reserving their special attention for stuff about homosexuality or divination/witchcraft.

And following Paul in that they take his word over that of the actual disciples of Jesus, reporting on what Jesus actually said and did, when it serves their agenda to do so.

"Red letter" Christians are a lovely group of people. As are some other folks who self-identify as Christian.

Lack of humour and extreme mental illness. Anger is an emotion, fundamental in human expression. Pray for me, and I shall think for you. Why do you want people to be brutal? So you can point and say "I told you so!"?

You think that the idea that aliens might be among us is a crock? Ok, so what about talking donkeys, burning bushes, and a global flood that didn't happen? To surmise that we are not alone in the universe is more humble than spouting fictional nonsense and passing it off as 'truth'.

Perhaps because some Christians -- SOME Christians -- go around attacking other religions and spreading lies and untruths about them. As a Wiccan, it is intensely annoying to come up against the same inaccurate information over... and over... and over again.

Yes, I get it. You're not Wiccan, and you don't want to become Wiccan. That's fine by me: I have no need to convert you. But dammit, at least stop handing out Chick tracts about how Wiccans sacrifice babies to Satan, and leave us to practice our religion in peace.

EDITED TO ADD: In response to the poster above who said, "People hate us because we have hope, we are happy, we live and love. We give thanks because we put our egos and pride aside and give thanks."... oh, PLEASE. Most Wiccans I know can say exactly the same thing. That's another reason why Christians are sometimes hated -- not because you're happy, but because you're so damned SMUG about it, and so PROUD of yourselves for being something special (which you are not). You're so utterly convinced of the fundamental unworthiness of anyone except your own "enlightened" selves.

Whew... a little bit of anger is sometimes good for the soul.

It's not a matter of hating Christians, it's just that what they believe in is rediculous. I went to church for the first time in 10 years for my grandmother's funeral recently and the priest was talking around in circles about some mumbo jumbo out of the bible and I was like "is he serious?" the whole thing is a contradiction, the new testament is a bullsh!t edit so that the bible can last a while longer in this more educated world, and a lot of it just doesn't make sense. Common sense would tell me that there is not one big man that cares about us ants or even remotely cares what we do on this earth. How does God explain aliens? Aliens do exist BTW, and it's perfectly clear in ancient hieroglyphics that the egyptians were in contact with alien beings etc etc. Theres waay too much evidence against this sillyness to believe it anymore. Education is religions worst enemy.

Sorry for my jumbled mess of thought sprawled out in an unorganized manner.

i would not call that dislike. we are only bored to death. we are bored to death with faith and we've each and every precise to be. no person ought to call you a loser. it relatively is totally nicely to make relaxing of a few Christians without calling them propose names or resorting to violence. purely be the bigger guy or woman and purely forget approximately with regard to the grotesque strategies-set that some people could have.
