It is water soluble, fast acting and is excreted before the victim expires.

Actually Christians can "drink deadly poison" without being harmed. Throughout the Bible, false words against God are considered poison. James 3:8 But the tongue can no man tame; [it is] an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. So it could be used that way, just as snakes or serpents are used to depict Satan. And Paul was bitten by a poisonous snake and he was fine, so anything is possible with God by your side! Paul didn't go looking for the snake to prove a point though. It was accidental. ANY poison is detectable, if the police look for it. Anything can be found at levels of 1 in a billion.
You would want a poison that does damage, and then metabolizes out of the body before the victim dies, like Carbon Tetrachloride. But that means it's not fast, and the victim can point the investigation at the killer before he dies.

Polonium 210 and there used to be a great one that was used for many murders as it was undetectable. That was succinyl choline. Now it can be detected with a gas chromatograph mass spec. I think most other if not all other poisons can be detected if foul play is suspected.

i dont know about most poisonous.. but nicotine is very difficult to detect and is deadly(not because of cancer either... immediate death). toxicology will just assume their a tobacco user.
its easy to refine too. and i know for a fact its been used to kill. it is classified as a poison as well.
