My mom just recently recovered from pnemonia and a couple other things while she was in the hospital. The doctor had her on way too many medications and it made her go into a coma, she was in ICU for a month and on life support for 3 weeks. She had a lot of fluid in her lungs and a bowl infection (TIM). Anyways she finaly recovered, lost 75-80 pounds, is continuing to loose it, a lot of age spots cleared up, and her hair got a lot thicker and fuller. She looks like shes in her early 30's again (shes only 47). Well she was always depressed before she got sick and would never go on dates. She always said things like, "no man would ever want me." Now she is feeling better, looking better, and just better in general & I think she should start dating again. Im not sure but I think her confidence is down and she still feels fat (shes not anymore). So my question is, how could I get her out of the house to meet new guys. Our town is pretty small and most people find dates at bars,

but shes not like that and doesnt drink. I put it in this section because I know there are some single moms who might have some experience with this. Any advice appriciated.

My mom is ready to date, she just doesnt go out because she thinks she is a bad parent for leaving me home by myself. (im 15) I think she still feels like she owes me for the 3 months she was in the hospital and couldnt care for me. She thinks that if she goes out she will be like those parents that are always out at the bars (my dads like that).

You can start taking your mom out to places. For example, public library, religious meeting (church), when shopping for groceries, or clothing in the mall, go to where older males shop, gathering of some sort, events in town. Tons of things you can take her out, but don't stick to her, kind of give her lead way when you go out with her.

That is a really sad story but I am glad your mom is feeling better. I think that the fact that you are trying to help your mom out is great. What about teachers, or if it is a small town then maybe someone you already know. This is always a tough situation because your mom might feel like she should be taking care of you not the other way around. Just make sure to talk to her and see how she feels.

I did not read what anyone else said I just want to share what I think might help.

I know you are in a small town. I think to help to gain her confidence with her new self you take her out shopping or just walking and tell her to see the looks of the people that know her and that when they say Hi with smile on their faces her confidence will grow. Remember you can't make someone swim when they don't no how you have to take them by the hand and slowly get them in the water pretty soon they will be on their own. So go out with her and be a friend she will take it from there when she is ready.

it's so sad what all your mom has been through. i think it's so sweet that you want to help your mom like this. but the truth be known, she'll do something when she's ready. maybe she's not into dating right now or maybe she won't ever be into dating. i'm sure she'll find and meeting someone when she's ready and the timing is right for her. be patient and just be there for your mom.

one way to get her out of the house would be for you and your mom to go somewhere together so she gets out some. go to the mall shopping, etc. who knows what could happen.

While my mom wasn't sick like yours was, she wasn't feel good about herself a while ago. My sister and i teamed up and we took her shopping for clothes that looked good on her and made her feel good. We supported her emotionally and told her every day that she is a beautiful person who deserves everything in the world (and that's the truth!). Your mom will start dating when she is ready. You need to be there for your mom emotionally and make sure that she knows she is a wonderful and beautiful person. The best gifts that you can give your mother is your love and to help her with her self-confidence. Best of Luck!

That is her decision. She will do it when she is ready.
