I have heard that people get addicted to Vicodin. I would like to request another pain medication that is less addictive. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I have had to take vicodin twice; once for a skull fracture and once for pain related to an infection. Unless you have had problems with other types of addictions: alcohol, pot, etc.. You shouldn't have any trouble. Be sure and take it with food, because it can cause you to be VERY nauseous. In fact, I was sick the whole time I was on it for the skull fracture and was VERY happy to stop taking it when the pain stopped. I broke them in half the second time because the pain wasn't so intense and did ok.

Any of the stronger pain meds like percodan and darvocet can be addictive if you lean in that direction. If you are reasonably healthy mentally, then you shouldn't have any problems as you will only take them for tooth extraction pain for a week or less.

the only way you can get addicted is by taking it 4 or 5 times a day for weeks... The dentest knows this and you will surely not hurt that much that you will have to over dose on the big V..... If you are so scared take Advil.... Good luck Grant M in pennsylvania

People DO NOT get addicted to pain medicine taken for an acute injury or after an operative procedure. They get addicted if they take it for pain that is not related to those things, such as pain with depression. Take the GD pills and feel better. You won't need them after 3-4 days and you'll stop.

Tell him the Darvocet didn't do it. Darvocet is not an Opiate. He should give you Tylenol 3 or 5mg Vicodin. Do not abuse them. As an ex drug addict you do not want to go down that road. It is a dead end that leads to heartache for you, your family, and anyone else you come in contact with.

Make sure you eat a little something first then take half at first. Half may be all you need just don't let yourself get to far in pain. because then you will really need a whole pill to get out of pain. I understand your concerns but just take it slow and take half at first just to see how you feel. if not there is always Advil or any other anti inflammatory medication.

Vicodin is only addictive if you are an idiot. I am sure your prescription is not refillable and he probably didn't give you very many. Only take one for severe pain. Use over the counter meds for not so bad. I take it for migraines. It takes me about a year and a half to go though my prescription of forty. I am certainly not addicted.

if you take it as perscribed you should be fine. In the doses it is percribed for this kind of thing you are really safe. If you still do not want to take it you can take 2 Ibuprofin of tylanol every 4 hours as necesicery if this is not enough take 3 200mg ibuprofin every four hours.

Darvocet is a pain killer that is less addictive, it is strong enough to help, but less addictive as I stated. Good luck, and stop taking meds as soon as you can get by without them, then you will have nothing to be concerned about in regards to addiction. It takes months to yrs to get addicted.
