I have been pondering this philosophical enigma:
Let's say Marilyn Manson (the low talent death-rock musician) dies on stage trying to swallow a live rat or something and goes to hell. Now let's say that Charles Manson (the psychotic cult leader and murderer) is knifed to death in the prison yard and also goes to hell. Both of these pieces of human debris deserve to be in hell where they belong but since someone like Charles Manson is so much more evil than Marilyn Manson would he actually get good treatment from satan for eternity? If so would Hitler be like living in a gold palace or something? If this is true then would evil people try to be even MORE evil so that can have it easy in hell?

While I believe there are degrees of hell, some being potentially worse than others, all of hell will be as '2telldathruth' describes it. It's an eternal separation from God, complete blackness and never ending suffering. It's not at all like the melodramatic imagery given to us in skits, cartoons, and jokes where 'the devil' runs the place and chooses to punish those he picks or give favors to those he likes. At least there is certainly no evidence in the Bible that it works that way.

Too bad we can't actually ask someone who is there, huh? I bet that would clear a lot of things up!

Your out there Cowboybi, Hell is described as eternity of TOTAL darkness. Never ending sorrow and gnashing of teeth. Never any love, comfort or peace. Myself, I see no rewards. If even 1% of what the Bible explanes hell to be like, I dont want any part of it. Choose Christ my friend. There is no ending! We all live forever, either with God, or seperated from God.

I've always found it disturbing that Christians who think they are going to heaven actually only believe that they're going to spend the rest of eternity with a huge group of people, some of whom were only marginally less bad than those condemned to eternal hell fire.

Your point and mine are two of the (multitude of) reason I'm not a Christian.

The reward for being in hell is that you won't have to shovel snow.
