Valerian is good. It's herbal and tastes vile but it does work and also it acts as a mood stabilizer. It also helps a lot with restless leg syndrome.

Well I'm here to tell you I "had" the same problem. Didn't sleep well if at all for most of my life. Wouldn't sleep for 4-5 day stretches and still had to get up (still awake) and go to work. How I did it, don't have a clue.
I am now on anti anxiety meds. Probably different case then yours. All I know that it helps with my anxiety and I also sleep (for first time) like a baby kitten. It's nice to know, when you go to bed you're going to sleep.
Yes, I did try sleep aids. Must have tryed them all! They just didn't work. Next day side effects were worse than the non sleeping.
If you haven't seen a doctor, make an appointment and maybe a solution can be found. If I had known years ago about anxiety I would have had a more peaceful life. But that was then. Husband, small child, working full time. Why wouldn't I have anxiety.
Get to the doctor if you haven't already and maybe you can get some answers. You're not alone.
Good Luck

I have suffered for many years because of a thyroid that I had to have removed. I say I haven't slept a good night since. I have tried them all and they work a little, not well enough. One thing that did work, and I had pain at the time and it helped that too was Elavil...it's an old antidepressant but is used in low dosages for pain ans sleep. It can cause a hangover and also may make you gain weight, but ir makes you sleep. It takes a while to get used to the morning hangover...use as little as works, take it early so it works earlier. Good luck.

Ambian was fantastic the first time I took it, but not after that. I have a vague recollection of sleep walking with it too. Lunesta gave me the most god-awful taste in my mouth the next day and it lasted ALL day long. Eating was fine, but all liquids were just disgusting, plus the pill only put me to sleep for about 4 hours. Recently I've tried Rozerem, but I didn't sleep any better or worse, and the next day I was really groggy. Hope that helps.

Hot Coco~My favorite is Swiss Miss Eat a Miss Debbie's gingerbread man to calm your nerves and cure any hunger. You can just have a cup of hot milk. Microwave for 1min 33 seconds.Milk will help you sleep naturally. Try to sleep when the Baby does. Good Luck~ Sweet Mother~ Soothing music and a velvety blanket and fluffy pillow might help too.

You would be much better off without those drugs. If you haven't already, change your diet. Cut out the caffiene, junk food, and high sugars. Exerise every morning. If you wait until evening to exercise, that actually will make it harder for you to relax and fall asleep.
I'd imagine you already have a bedtime routine. Yes it sounds silly, but it does actually work for adults too. Chamomile tea, maybe some valarian root or melatonin.
I used to take all sorts of drugs help me sleep. Xanax, valium, adavan, so many more I can't even remember the names I was so drugged up. I found the side affects were worse than lack of sleep.
Once I changed my life around, ate healthier, exercised, stopped the "medication", I find myself falling asleep and staying asleep so much easier.
Hope this helps.

You need to find the basis for your insomnia. I know taking supplements may help, but not solve the problem. Recently, I read that people who like to be in control have a hard time sleeping because they don't want to be not in control while they sleep. I have no idea whether this describes you, but it is just an example of why people don't sleep. If your condition is truly organic, I would go with one of the mainstreamed medications. Anxiety also prevents good sleeping. You may try Ativan it helps me.

Seroquel is the bomb, plus non-addictive, no side effects, have had insomnia for 20 years, it works!
Elavil made me crave sweets...beware, the docs don't mention this is a side effect of some sleep aids

I prefer Ambien CR because it keeps me asleep most of the night. Lunesta works well too but it gives me a metal taste in my mouth that I often feel the next day. I personally feel those 2 drugs are the best on the market and I am a terrible insomniac!

I use Ambian CR plus found out I have sleep apnea. They just started me on Provigal which really helps to keep me alert during the day and in turn sleep better at night. No technical words sorry
