My LCD tv is about 5ft from the floor. I want to mount my center, front-left, and front-right speakers above it. Is that too high for good sound?

You can get away with some elevation, but with no room parameters, speaker size or model it is hard to make a recommendation as there are applications for just such a situation.

If you have to mount them that high, it would help if you could angle the speakers to point down.

A better idea would be to place the center speaker just under the LCD TV (so your ears and eyes would match that the action & dialog are coming from the TV), and mount the L/R speakers so the tweeters were at the same height as the tweeters on the center. This should keep all the locatable sounds at the same height and actually would be close to ear height when sitting.

Hi.May i ask why have you got your TV that high from the floor. When you are seated the center of the screen should be at eye level, unless you have a very long room.If you raise the speakers 5 feet off the floor the tweeter will be above your ear level, unless you turn it upside down to bring the tweeter closer to you ear level when seated.

I believe that mounting your speakers that high you might lose some of the surround effects. Is there a reason behind mounting your speakers that high?
Why not mount them at the same height, side by side.

If you mount your speakers near the ceiling, turn them over, upside-down, so that the tweeters are further from the ceiling and the woofers are closer to the wall/ceiling boundary. If your center speaker is directional (has what would normally be considered a "top" and a "bottom") then do the same with it. Actually, though, this is a perfect situation to use a center speaker that is identical to your front L and R speakers.

I have a 53" tv. We have our t.v. in the center of the wall. Its one that sits on the floor. We have one speaker on the right of the tv about 7 ft. Then we have one on top of the t.v. and another one to the right of the tv about 7ft. so yea. 7ft is pretty good for your tv.

Wow... you're new at this whole thing aren't you? Think - neck pain... and lots of it.

Most systems are at the standard comfort level to the listeners ears and eyes as they are sitting or at rest. UNLESS you plan on having the Lakers stand around your room for some reason.

Yes it should be no more than 3 feet above your head when your sitting or in your TV watching position.

Mine are on the floor and the wires are under the baseboard. You can put them in under there by poking them in with a screwdriver.

No, it sounds good to me.

It might not be the best sound you could get, but it should still be really good !

If i were you, i would just try it, i'm sure it will be fine.
