We went to a local restaurant and ate and had a ball.. everyone paid for their own meals. So it was cheap enough.

Check into local parks, if you live where it will still be nice you can do something outdoors. Personally, I love this time of year outside.
Call around to every reception hall you can think of, including local community centers, churches (that often have large community halls), VFW's, etc. You never know--October isn't a HUGE wedding month, someone just MIGHT have an opening. Those would be very inexpensive.
You could also see if a friend or family member has a home that would accommodate the wedding. I don't know how many people you've invited, but if it's fewer than 100, you might be fine doing it in someone's home--depending on the size of the home.
The other thing you can do, is have a reception in another month or so for local friends and family. That gives you time to find another location, and work to budget for it. What you can do is with the out of town guests, after the wedding contact a restaurant, and have dinner/brunch/lunch/dessert/whatever right after the ceremony.
Good luck, and I'm sorry that your father has let you down like this--that's too bad. I would shoot my husband if he did that to our daughter on her wedding day--and then I'd go out, find the most expensive place I could, and make HIM pay for it!! LOL

Have your reception at home, the old fashioned way.
Have a picnic wedding in a beautiful park.
Approach some local halls, church halls, community halls. Sometimes rental on these buildings is really cheap. Like 50 or 60 bucks for a night. Even look a little further afield, like in the next town. You will probably have to fork out a little for decorations, but much of this stuff can be bought cheap at dollar stores. You cant be too choosy, you are in a dire situation.

start calling other places.
What were you going to spend on food? Is your wedding small enough that you can all go to a restaurant - maybe you can provide appetizers or something like that.
Friends and family may have room...
If you are getting married at a church, many of them will let you use their hall for free.
Good Luck on your big day - and be glad you found out now instead of 2 weeks from now!!!

Our neice's reception hall had a fire several weeks befor her wedding day. She called other halls and found one that had a cancellation and offered her a real deal if she kept the same menu and arrangements. She did and it cost her 20% of original price.

Do you have a relative or friend that has a big enough house and yard to host the after party?
Congratulations on your wedding!
