Well, you have to cross the Hudson first and eventually cross the Delaware River in NJ/PA or Delaware. And that's where your question gets tricky, depending on which way you are going.
The one guarantee is that you WILL pass the Mississippi River since it runs from Louisiana to Minnesota.

This question could be answered if you were to ask about Major Waterways. However, Waterways in general, include any body of water including man made canals that can be navigated by any boat from a row boat to a Mississippi River Boat.
From NY to LA each State may have many such Waterways. This list is probably longer than this answer box can accomodate.

first waterway is the hudson river, hackensack river, delaware river, susquhana river, alegheny, river those are the big ones and that's as far west as i've driven:)
