yup! my husband said that mail call the the highlite of the day. they do give you time to write, but you can sneak in a few extra letters in here and there. mail takes some time. we lived in one state away from great lakes and it took about 1 week for him to recieve the letter. also, dont ask for care packages (food, like cookies) they will put it in the garbage. good luck to you!

Yes, you absolutely do. When I went through basic, we all wrote home as often as our fingers would let us, and we ran across the street (okay, marched in twos or threes) to the mailbox and mailed them all. You buy your own writing stuff, but they give you money at the beginning to cover nesseceties. Don't worry, you'll be fine. And encourage family and friends to write encouraging letters to you. Mail time is the best time of the day, in my opinion. I was always a little disappointed if I didn't get one. Have a great experience!

yes, even in the military, mail is a federal law, they must allow a U.S. citizen the wright to send and receive letters...if your in basic or heading to basic training, they should have given you a list that you need to bring, i.e. running shoes, paper and pens, stamps...if not you will be afforded and opportunity to visit the post exchange(PX) for hygiene and other needed equipment...each evening there is personnel time. Which is when you are allowed to write home and shine boots, etc...mail is usually received by a mail handler and is transported to the barracks and is called out so you can receive it...information on mail drop box's or places to actually put your letters...is usually in the common room of all barracks or even picked up by your Drill Sergeant..

Y E S, the DIs will give personal time to the troops
for letter writing, cleaning their equipment, polishing boots and belt buckles and personal hygiene. Letters will be picked at the orderly room
for mailing. You will have time to go to the PX and buy stationary and stamps, plus pens for writing!!

Yes. In fact it's encouraged. They don't want your parents getting worried about you because they haven't heard from you and panicking and calling some Congressman.

You have to buy your own writing materials and stamps but you'll have plenty of money for that because there is nothing else to spend your money on in basic.

Also, at some point you'll get assigned CQ duty, which means you sit up half the night waiting to answer a phone
which never rings. That's gives you plenty of time to write.

If you have questions about basic, you should talk to your recruiter. They can give you info about basic.

You buy your own pen, paper, and stamps at the PX, then they allow you to mail whatever you write. You will also get a chance to call if you like.

Yes, you can write and receive letters. You buy your own pen and paper. There is like a mail office in the company area/barracks if I remember correctly.

Yes. They usually let you call right away to let family know you have arrived and then they usually make you send letters home to let family know you are still alive so mommy doesn't show up at the main gate. The letters are usually short and sweet and sometimes form letters. It varies due to branch and how far along in training you are.
