If you converted, that would take a lot of stress off of you for sure. I know it has to be hard being an atheist with all the flack you catch from religious people. This would put an end to a lot of that. This would make your life easier. Not to mention you will have a relationship with Jesus.

If you don't want to, why not? What is holding you back?

I am trying to be nice.

What holds me back is that I know the history of Christianity, I have read the Bible, and I have been to Christian churches. The more I know about Christianity the less I want to be Christian. The more I read the Bible the more I realize it is a dangerous book that advocates a terrible way of thinking. Shame, deceit, original sin, humility. It's a recipe for failure.

Also, I do not believe in God. It's not a choice the way I choose a T-shirt in the morning, it's a belief--I do not believe there is a being in the sky or anywhere else that is all-powerful, or all-knowing, or all-good, who watches over us and determines anything in our lives. I think this life is all we get and when we die, we die. Religion was created to allay these fears and comfort the sick and dying. I do not need such comfort.

I don't catch flack from religious people, I can dish it right back if I ever do. My lack of religion has never made me stressed, it has given me the same clarity and comfort that your religion has given you. It lifted the veil from my eyes and made the world clear and beautiful when I realized there was nothing in control...that meant that I could be in control, of my own life and destiny, and opinions. I do not suffer from being an atheist, I benefit. The air is great out here.

Why are you so stressed out that strangers or anyone else doesn't want to convert to Christianity. Maybe if people converted that would make YOU feel better. Why can't you accept that there are people who believe differently than you do and don't believe in the power of Christ. Just b/c you fear Christ and chose to follow "his" teachings that doesn't mean everyone else feels the same way. I can certainly tell you that no atheist sits around stressing out b/c they believe Christ is the only way to salvation but they just don't believe. I don't really care what religion you follow or if you follow one at all or if you believe in a god or anything. I care if someone is a good decent person who does not hurt others and at least attempts to be open. I cannot stand it when people try to convert me. If I say I'm not interested then that is final. I don't want to hear any more about it and if you keep pestering me i will get a little annoyed. Wouldn't you be annoyed if an atheist kept pestering you to switch to their belief system?

I think it's a great idea for people to have a relationship with Jesus! But what I don't get is why it's any of your concern whether someone is a believer or not. If people like YOU would stop harrassing people about their personal beliefs, maybe we would have more people joining the Christian faith. I've had quite a few wiccan, athiest, and agnostic aquaitances over the years and never once have I told them, "maybe you should convert, it would be a lot less stress". If that's any kind of rationale, maybe we should all convert Islam; then maybe Osama Bin Laden will turn his attentions else where. Sounds smart, huh?

I will not convert due to peer pressure.
I feel no stress for not being a Christian.
I have no interest in having a relationship with Jesus.
There is nothing holding me back from what you suggest.
I appreciate your concern, but please, stop.
Your approach is condescending and insulting.
Please accept the idea that that there are other people who choose to live a different life than that you have chosen for yourself.
Please accept the idea that we are each free to make the personal choice of religion (or not) and that some of us have chosen differently than you.
Please honor the fact that I am exercising free will, a concept that most religions acknowledge.
Please consider how you would feel if I turned your same argument against you, and pleaded for you to accept paganism.
Stop. Now.
I am trying to be nice.

You have contradicted yourself. All people supposedly have a relationship with Jesus or one of the symbolic people representing "God," in whatever form God is. So the contradiction is,-- you stated only people who are Christians have a relationship with Jesus. Everybody, whether they want to or not, have a relationship with the main spirit or energy that runs this universe. Being Christian or atheist, Buddhist or whatever is only the belief of the human, not what is real or not. Christians have had a hard time supporting their thoughts throughout history. Just be patient and kind. Each to their own. You were nice, just misinformed.

Shuuuud UP!

Let people have freedom of choice!
Christianity isn't th eonly choice and God isn't going to condemn people for not understanding Him.
Give it a rest, you'll feel a lot better, lots of stress off YOU if you make it a lot easier on everyone and SHUT UP.
You give christians a bad name.

I'm not..trying to be nice.
People like you need to learn to be more tolerant.
What's the harm in leaving people alone!!!!!!
God accepts everyone who has a good heart.
You need to learn that your religion isn't the only path to God.
being good and moral is enough.

Sorry for saying shut up, but you really should take more disciplin in minding your own business. Jesus told people to spread the news, not to force ppl into conversion. Spread the news by acting Chris-like. Jesus did not say convert to Christianity-HE WAS A JEW...spread the news by showing th egoodness in your actions. leave ppl alone otherwise.

I'm already a Christian.
Why would an athiest convert to Christianity if he doesn't understand anything about it?
If you are not raised in the Christian lifestyle and read the Old Testament, it would be hard to convert. I have trouble with the Old. It's the New Testament that makes all the difference. With the Old Testament we are no different from the Jews or Muslims.

I understand your desire to spread the word to others, especially non-believers. However, your question does reveal your lack of experience with atheists. Try reading up on some atheist literature before you try to convert them - at least then, you'd know where they are coming from.

In a more general sense, keep in mind that a lot of pain and suffering in this world would be mitigated if people allowed others to live as they pleased. If we could all learn to coexist, there would be less war and more peace.

Im not sure what I am, but whats holding me back from converting...I dont agree with a lot of what they say in christianity. Im sorry but if a man came up to you today and said I can walk on water, the man would be sent to crazy town. I believe religion is a way to scare people away from chaos, a way of controling society. And the churches are always changing the rules, one day you can be gay, the next day you cant. A virgin who delivers a child?? helloooo???
