The Mayan calendar does not predict the end of the world on Dec 12th 2012.
The exact date of the end of the current Mayan Long Count is still a matter of debate amongst Mayan scholars, although it is likely to be around Dec 21 2012.
The Mayan calendar is cyclical, and there are names for cycles longer than 13 bactuns of the Long Count which are coming to an end in 2012.
Even if the Mayans did believe that the world would come to an end at the end of the Long Count (which I don't believe is true), there is no reason to assume that they have any special knowledge which would allow them to make this prediction correctly. You are free to believe the Sun won't come up tomorrow, but it will anyway....
I dont believe the theory for the fact that in Gods Word it says noone will know the hour or the day that it will happen.
God Bless!

December 20, 2012 has no special significance, any more than 31 December 2007 (the last date on the calendar on my wall) has any special significance: just because my calendar runs out on that date doesn't mean the world will stop! And the same is true of the calendar you've been reading about!

I think it's Dec.21, 2012 . Unless you mean "Armageddon eve" LOL. This is the date the Mayan calender ends and some think it means the end of times . I am a Christain and believe as the Bible says that 'not even the angels in Heaven know '. Oddly enough though, the Mayans were very intelligent and even had the correct date, hundreds of years before the fact, when the Spanish would invade and eventually destroy them . Something to think about and makes for interesting conversations .

It's the date that some people who know a little bit--but not very much--about the Mayan calendar think the world's going to end. It's all a pile of bunk, as anybody who spent a good ten minutes researching the subject would find out.

You know, through out history, there have been hundreds of these dates, and ofcourse none of them have come true. Yes, alot of strange "coincidences" seem to point to 2012's winter solstice, but we can never truely know. I will tell you one thing, I won't be sleeping soundly on the night of December 19th.
(and seriously nikki, dont you self centered Christians have an off switch somewhere. You belive in Jesus Christ. WE GET IT! It doesn't have to come up in every discussion.)

If I knew what would happen on that date, I would make an appropriate stock market investment. Unfortunately, no one knows. That is my sole clairvoyant prediction for 2012.

Not really, but I've heard other people mention that date also. I think they think it's when Jesus will return. But, no one knows the day nor the hour that will happen. So, we must be ready! God Bless

i think that is when the Mayan calender predicts the end of the world. i view it like i viewed the coming of the year 2000 when everyone was buying water and preparing for a horrific new year's day...just another day. didn't buy water or hide. just got up to face another sunrise and sunset.
