Some of the words in the original Hebrew, Greek, and Aramaic used to describe the Holy Spirit are a feminine form of the noun. Would you consider it blasphemous to say there was a feminine aspect to the Holy Spirit, and, therefore, God? If not blasphemous, then erroneous? Please, let me see your opinions.

Since there are both Catholic and Protestant answers here, I'm going to send this to voting. As a Protestant, I know I can't be impartial.

Thanks for the answers, everyone.

When God created Man - that is the race of man,
"God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them." Genesis 1:27

God is not like a woman - the woman is like God.

I like that question... That could only have come from you...

Before I answer you, I must confess I don't understand very well the concept of Holy Spirit... but if the Holy Spirit is feminine or if God is feminine, I will love it. I think I would say "that's why God is so loving..." hehehehe...

I have a very special connection with Virgin Mary. I pray for her everyday and her love for us is something that makes my eyes fill with tears at any time... She is full of Grace, full of Love and Compassion. I can feel her arms embracing me, her sweet eyes upon me... and I really don't even deserve her attention to me, but she always gives me an answer, she gives me protection and she makes me strong. Therefore, a feminine Holy Spirit would be just as awesome!

Peace!
Edit: I loved Patrone's answer... That made me think!!

I've heard that also. God is pure spirit and doesn't have gender, but the Holy Spirit has been associated with Bridal Motherhood. In God their is Fatherhood (God the Father), Sonship (God the Son), and Bridal-Motherhood (God the H.S) In fact, the Holy Spirit and the Blessed Virgin Mary share a single divine motherhood! The Holy Spirit does with Jesus' divinity as Mary does with Jesus' humanity. Mary is the image of the Holy Spirit. The HOly Spirit is associated with the birthing process in baptism. Mothers give birth in the natural order, the H.S. gives birth in the supernatural order. The H.S. inspires our divine sonship to talk to God the Father, just as earthly Mothers teach their kids to walk and talk. God creates Adam, his firstborn son, then out of Adam's rib comes Eve. Eve is also an image of the Holy Spirit's procession from the Father and The SOn.

God is a spirit. And those who worship Him (more on that in a moment) must worship Him in spirit and truth.

God in the Old and New Testaments shows characteristics that we could call both "masculine" and "feminine". For those who say He is purely masculine, who do you think the personification of "Wisdom" in the book of Proverbs is?

So saying, we should not think He is just some giant hermaphrodite "up in the sky".

What we know about God, we know through revelation. He chose to reveal Himself as "Father" (Abba). That is how we should address Him.

Hope that helps.

No I would not be offended. God created us all in his image. I can't remember if this is the exact words or not, but I think that it even says "Let us create man in our image." Which would mean that God was speaking to other Gods not just himself. Actually if you read "The Epic of Gilgamesh" which was written way before the first selections of the bible you will find many similarities to several of the stories in Genesis. It's quite interesting.

Any way back to your question: I like to believe that God is multi-colored and of both sexes. I do consider myself a Christian.

Of course there is - both men and women are in God's image, aren't they?
God is God and he has feminine characteristics too - he created all of us. But I think he is more masculine than feminine.
Why do you think Jesus hung out with women so much? He was a master of relationships. And he was radical in having women as friends as that was not socially acceptable.
He was also pure in heart - it is troublesome to me that people have to make his relationships with women sexual. They were not ... but he has something on all other men in that he understands women ... (ha!)

In Genesis it is written that God said let us make them in our image. I assume when God said our he was talking to his female counterpart. (wife, partner...) absolutely, the Holy Mother has guided me and helped me many times. Thank you Holy Mother.
