Raised Catholic and then went to Episcopalian....(spelling bad -- sorry)....I have prayed ALL MY LIFE (and I'm almost 50 yrs old).....I have drug addicted son and I ALSO HAVE A SON WHO IS A CORPSMAN (Yeah "Doc") so don't bother "judging" this is a QUESTION. My oldest stole ALL from us, I had breast cancer, lost a job because of time missed for treatments, surgeries (3) and we finally ended up losing our home, our credit -- it got worse and worsel.....so my question is....how am I supposed to believe anymore?? I had breast cancer and I haven't had a check up for 5 years because I REFUSE to put my family on the street. I almost happened because of breast cancer 8 yrs ago .... sure, people "give free MAMOGRAMS -- that is NOT what is needed.....the treatments will destroy your family. I'm at a point in my life--my boys are grown and they don't "need me" anymore and if I die, I die....USA SUCKS......

Unfortunately, there are a lot of problems with health care in the US and everytime congress or the White House proposes a plan to remedy the inadequacies, it gets voted down or declared unworkable or undoable.

I am truly sorry that you didn't get the support you needed when you went through your ordeal. (Cancer sucks no matter how you look at if or if you have decent insurance coverage, I've been there too) I just found out that there are Medicaide programs available to assist women with breast or cervical cancer, not just mammograms, but each State administers them differently, and some hospitals don't know the program exists. In the meantime, people loose their homes, have to file bankruptcy, or go into major debt to get treated.

Perhaps you can find a support group or some volunteer project that will help get you out of your depression.

Unfortunatly to get adequate med help youare not allowed to have things like a home or good credit or enough money to survive on. I am 24 and have been dealing with stuff for 3 years. Instead of loosing faith in god, i lost faith in the system, and am now basically living off the sys til my docs think I have been in remission long enough to safely return to work. The only thing I have in my name is one car that is about to fall apart - and it is my only means of transportation of my own.

I live with my sig other but am not legally married bc he makes too much money for my public insurance, but he doesnt have ins, and the ins that is available to him wont cover my cancer treatment or oncologist apts. My only declared income is what I get from ss, even though I get a lil more from selling jewelry and other things when I am well enough. My sig other is declared as my roommate, and I also get food stamps. He doesnt make enough money to completly support the both of us, and I have worked and paid taxes, so I get what I can.

USA sucks? how could you say something like that. everyone has hard times, dont blame the usa for that. and as for believing, well sometimes you cant, but you have to be happy about the fact that you survived, to be there for your family. many people die from cancer, so your luck to be alive. and everything happens for a reason. after all you went through you deserve to live, so live. go out, have fun, do things you like

I am soo sorry for what you have gone through. You are now very frustrated and ...all I can say, please go have yourself checked. What nonsense to believe that if your boys are grown, they don't need you! If they could hear you....I am 26, my mom was diagnosed with leukemia some years back...we werent very close.. when I heard her diagnosys it broke my heart, I was sooo scared, terrified of something happening to her! Even if your kids never expressed how they feel ...I'm sure they LOVE you. They need you!

Besides, you say they're grown up. Good. The it's time you care for yourself, cater to your needs. Please, please, please, you've been exceptionally strong all this time..a model for other people...an example...do have faith.

Here's a prayer to the Holy Mary, Queen of ALL, we used to read when my mom went through chemo (did I mentioned she's ok now):

I have found great sweetnes and relief and comfort by praying, to the best of my humble abilities, to the Mother of God.

sorry but everyone has problems, I too have breast cancer and i've had to pay cobra insurance for 18 mts out of my pocket and have tried to pay all my bills, my husband got fired right after my second treatment of chemo., my son was also raised in a religous back ground and he is a drug addict, my husband is also an alcholic. Ive had chemo, a mastomenctemy and radaiton. My son has also stole from me and other family members, he has a 4 year old son and his mother is doing time in prison for cdv. My oldest brother was found dead 2 months before I found out that I had cancer, then my dog came down with cancer of the spleen and kidneys one month after I was diagonised with cancer. I had to put her to sleep. then 2 months later while I was going through chemo, my home caught on fire and I had to live with family for 4 months. So dont tell me life doesnt kick you in the teeth over and over and over again. My insurance will be over at the end of nov 2007, and Im not sure of what Im going to do either! But let me tell you one thing I have fought and fought this cancer and Im not about to give up now. Our system in the USA works for those that dont necessaryly need it. It helps the young mothers that go out here and stay pregnant. It helps those that are able to help themselves. I did apply for disability and was approved, but i dont qualify for SSI, you cant own any assets over $3,000.00 to qualify. therefore i cant qualify for medicade. I have sold everthing possible to generate enough money to live until I qualified for disability. When my home burnt the insurance money was deposited in my checking account and that threw me out from receiving SSI. So after Nov. im without coverage. Dont know what im going to do, but Ive fought like Hell ! and Im going to continue to fight! You just cant give UP! Wheather you know it or not your family does depend on you. Dont let yourself think that they dont. Things will work out, but dont just give up! I know where you are and your right the system doesnt work for older people and people that cant help themselves. Pick your self up and fight like hell to keepongoing. I will pray for you, God Bless!
