We've always had a dog in our family, and we always gotten them from the pound. Our current dog, Buffy (the burglar slayer) was listed as an Akita at the animal shelter. She was about 6 months old, tri-color - black, white and brown, with a little brindle on the paws - so we though, yeah, maybe she's an Akita...now 10 years later we still don't know what she is! She's probably Australian Mountain Dog, Basset and a little Pit Bull, she looks just like the dog on Frontline medication for large dogs. She's sweet, loves cats, and thinks she only weighs 20 pounds not the 78 that she really is!

I have Labrador Retrievers, and all my life I have owned or fostered many many many breeds, but i never fell in love with a breed until I got to know the Labs. Even though they are the most popular breed in the US I nevr had one and I have had over 100 dogs between pets and rescues/fosters. Then I met my boyfriend who had them and I was hooked. They are so devoted, affectonate, loving, intelligent and versatile. They are just the best all around and most loving dogs.
I also have Pit Bulls and I got those because of my brother, They were my brothers love and he lost his life way way too young. But he had a mission to prove Pit Bulls were not monsters and his dogs are proof.

I have a female Labrador Retriever who is 4 years old. My kids wanted that breed. I love her very much. Her name is Lily. I always liked beagles and cocker spaniels. My daughter was going to buy a Jack Russell Terrier but I heard they are very excitable and bark alot. My dog is alot calmer now. My daughter wanted a Lab because she thinks Labs are physically attractive, smart and playful at the same time. She is all that & more.

We have two toy poodles that stay inside and two Great Pyrenees that stay outside. They sleep on the porch. We particularly like the Pyrenees for their temperament. They are very gentle with children and are very protective of their people. Many use them as sheep-dogs or to guard other animals. We think they are the best for guard. They will even protect children that they don't know ! We just love poodles because they are so intelligent. They are the best. We love all breeds though.

I have a miniature schnauzer. We adopted her this summer. She is three this month and I totally fell in love with her on sight. I had another schnauzer much younger who was so high energy you could hardly deal with her sometimes, and Ella absolutely caught me heart with her gentle little ways. She is so low key and just wants to be petted and loved on all the time. She is a silver mini with the sweetest brown eyes, and we all absolutely adore her. The first day we had her home my 3 year old grandson got to sit and pet her, and she did sit and get petted and he looked at me with the happiest eyes and said "She Likes Me!" She has been a treasure in our home every since. Adopting her as an older dog was probably the key to success for me.

Shetland Sheepdog (Sheltie).
I got my first one about 18 years ago and have had a total of 4 over the years. My current guy is 10 and came from a rescue group. Shelties are very smart and loyal, and great dogs to have with kids. They make great house companions, if you can stand the shedding! :-)

My old girl is a Beagle/Lab cross, and my mother got her for me almost 14 years ago.
My boy is a... well... We're not really sure what he is. I tell people he's Pit/Akita, but who the hell knows. I rescued him a couple Christmases ago, from some people who left him on a chain. He was only 6 weeks old or so.
www.greatmutts.com Dog's Name: Thoven. His pic is on there, if you want to take a shot at guessing what's in him.

I have loved ALL dogs since I was very young. But my parents tried to beat it into my head that I can play with Any dog I want, EXCEPT Pit Bulls, Rottweilers, Chows, and German Shepherds. I didn't listen to them. I started volunteering at the local Humane Society when I was in High School, and I absolutely Fell In Love with all the Pit Bulls that came in. I wished I could save every one of them. Once I moved out on my own to my own house, I rescued my own adult American Pit Bull Terrier from the same animal shelter I volunteered at. I chose her because she was very friendly with kids, strangers, dogs, and cats. She was playful and energetic, but not crazy hyper. She is very smart, and eager to please. And she is Beautiful! Adopting my Pit Bull was one of the best decisions I have ever made.
