Whatever you do make sure you declare any cash you bring with you into the country in excess of $10,000. The government can legally take anything you don't declare if it's more than that.

Put the money in a bank that has branches in India and the US, such as Citibank or HSBC. You will also need permission from the RBI to convert INR into USD.

There are many banks with branches in both India and the US. Citibank is the largest. They will charge a good-sized rupee-to-dollar conversion fee.

Perhaps open a Swiss bank account and set it up so you can draw on it from within the U.S.? I would contact a U.S.-based accountant to discuss your best options.

You've heard of "Banks"..you've heard of the internet?
why do you need to take all your money with you?
That's what ATMS and check books are for.

Come over first, then enquire with banks about opening accounts and transferring your money.

open a PAYPAL account from India and put the funds in there. Once you arrive in USA, you can go on line, add a US bank account to your PAYPAL account, and transfer the funds to that account. For more info, go to: HTTPS://WWW.PAYPAL.COM
