In other words, does a JW consider Mormonism a cult and does a Mormon consider JWs to be a cult?

Sorry if this question came off as rude. I was just curious, no harm meant to anyone!

I am a Christian, one of Jehovah's Witnesses. I consider the mormon faith to be just that, another faith.

Honestly, in the real world, outside of Y!A, the defenition of "Cult" seems to be allot more picky. From what I can tell, often on here all one needs to do is believe differently from someone else, and boom, they are cultists.

We Jehovah's Witnesses are a religion. I believe the same of the Mormons.

Do you belong to a cult?

Nope, we don't think that JWs are a cult. We do respect their beliefs and agree that they are Christians too and we respect them; we don't put them or any other religion down. I believe that ANY religion that believes in a God and a Jesus is totally NOT a cult, sadly some people misunderstand the meaning of the word cult and start calling everyone a Cult and blah blah blah.

JWs don't put us down neither, they are good people and although Mormons and JWs' beliefs don't agree a lot, they respect each other. I have a JW aunt that keeps putting Mormonism and all religions down but I know that not all JWs are like her, she is way too obsessed and stuff and I have to admit it... I've met more JWs and have even taken Bible studies with them and I can tell you that they aren't a cult and that they are good people

PS: thanks Jack

Actually the JW's are technically an Organization. I've not heard them refer to themselves as a cult or for that matter a religion. I don't know any Mormons here (crete). But I do agree with the earlier poster about the Born Agains. They are Craazay!

No offense taken. By definition all religions are cults. The only people that go around telling others that they are a cult hellbound are ignorant people. I don't label others because I don't like to be labeled. "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Although I don't believe in all the things that Jehova's Witnesses do I do believe that everybody has the right to worship however they want.

CULT: n. church down the street from mine. especially if I don't like and don't believe as they do, and want others to fear and hate them as much as I do.

At least, that's what the definition is to most non-LDS Christians.

Here is what a cult would be for me to call it such a name.

They live locked into a communal situation, with no contact with the outside world.

They worship a living person who does not seem to care about anyone but him/her self. A leader who mistreats, misuses, and abuses those who worship him/her. A leader who teaches them to fear (to the point of paranoia) anything or anyone who is not a part of their group

So, yes, that leaves out the JW's. Although I do believe that they consider us a "cult".

To call any group a "cult" brings out a knee-jerk reaction of "OMG! a CULT!! Something MUST be DONE!!" And like I said, it's pretty much become a catch-all term for non-LDS Christians to use against any church or group that they don't like and don't believe, that they want others to fear and hate as much as they do.

I think that there is a "cult" of anti-Mormons. The "leaders" are those who knowingly lie to people about what we believe, and the "followers" who swallow whole those lies. and the topper? These "followers" will refuse to ask or listen to any answers from Mormons, as they are brainwashed into believing that Mormons will all lie to get people into our church. Which is realy stupid, but they don't stop to think about that.

I, as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, do not view the Jehovah's Witness religion as a cult. They follow the precepts and teachings of Jesus Christ to the best of their understanding as do we.

When I think of a cult, I think of Jim Jones and the Kool-ade killings, and David Koresh and his followers that ended in tragedy in Waco, Texas. A true cult will live up to the biblical prophecy of, "by their fruits ye shall know them," but in a negative sense.

The LDS faith and the Jehovah's Witness faith both teach the principles of Jesus Christ; therefore, the fruits are valid and meaningful. Neither religion expects its followers to drink poisoned Kool-ade simply because of doctrinal misleading of the Second Coming of Christ or that properties had been sold and the money hid up by the leaders of that particular following.

The dictionary defines a cult as a group following certain religious doctrines faithfully and with purpose and in that context every religious belief is cultish.

Yet I take offense at being labeled a cult simply because a belief system runs counter to main-stream Christianity or to one's focused point of view. Religious bigotry comes into play with many that are quick to label a group a cult. Don't be guilty of that.

As far as I know, the LDS's never label anyone like that. They just boldly state that they are the only true church and that is about all they say... ever.

It's everyone else that gets scrappy with them, and calls them a cult.

Tell you what, if you're ever truly in the crap with a major catastrophe. I can just about guarantee that it will be a Mormon that gets you out of it.

I'm starring this so Love Yahoo will see it; she's a Mormon and sort of brings the Mormon crowd along with her on her answers.

I don't label any faith as a cult, unless we're talking about the generic sense of the word, by which definition every religion is a cult.
