I've heard the above statement from tons of people. "I believe in Jesus, just not what the Bible says."

But Jesus' story is in the Bible, so how does that make sense? It seems more like people are choosing to just beleive parts of the Bible they like.

So, can somebody please explain how you can believe in Jesus, but not the Bible that tells us about him? It's not like you can talk to anybody who saw him die. This was 2007 years ago.

BTW, I understand it requires faith, but how would you have known all the details like the name, exactly what he did, etc?

Truth is, people have been inventing counterfeit versions of Jesus since the days of the Apostles:

"But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent's cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ. For if someone comes to you and preaches a Jesus other than the Jesus we preached, or if you receive a different spirit from the one you received, or a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it easily enough...........For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, masquerading as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. It is not surprising, then, if his servants masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve."
II Corinthians 11:3-4; 13-15

Only the True Jesus - the One revealed in the Word of God, the Bible can save the soul from eternal destruction. Better find out for yourself!

I am glad you asked this question because it is the same thing when people say they believe in God but not the bible or certain parts of it. I learned many years ago not to assume what people are saying just because they use the same terminology. Ex: people say I believe in God or I believe in Jesus. I always ask them what do they mean when they say that and it used to amaze me the answers they gave. Most people mean they believe that God or Jesus exists. Some people will say they believe in the God of the bible even though they don't believe the bible. The same way people say they believe Jesus is the Son of God. Well, look at all the false religions who say this and they do not mean the same thing but they use the same terminology. This is why there is so much confusion among many true Christians and unbelievers. No wonder unblelievers are confused with all the different religions when they see or hear everyone using the same words but not understanding that we don;t mean the same thing. The sad part is that so many of the true Christians are so gullible that we think people mean the same thing we do because we do not take time to ask them to really explain what they are saying. Just because a person says God, Jesus , Son of God, Jesus died for my sins and talk about bible does not mean they are talking the same language as I am. It is the same way with the bible, I know people who claim to be Christian and they don't think there is anything different or wrong with the New World Translation or the Catholic bibles. When the Christian say they believe in Jesus Christ as the Son of God, they mean God the Son, God incarnate, the Word made Flesh. The JW's mean a god, Michael the Archangel, the Muslims mean another prophet, the Mormons mean the brother of Lucifer, who married Mary, and Martha. Christians worship Jesus. The JW's give obesiance to Jesus. They do not worship Him. Christians know that the Holy Spirit is God. The JW's say the Holy Spirit is God's active force and not a Person.
Every last one of these religions and many others have one common denominator and that is the bible plus something or minus the bible.
The bible plus the Q'ran, the bible plus the watchtower; the bible plus the book of mormons; the bible plus the pope, penance, rituals, baptisms, certain postions for prayer , facing certain directions, praying for and to the dead; gaining brownie points poineering; the bottom line is that the sacrifice of Jesus and the Word of God is not enough and they make God a liar. God says their is a going to be a lake of fire and they say man will be annihilated. God says when His people die they are absent from the body and present with the Lord and they say only 144,00 annointed ones will be in heaven. Jesus said we MUST be born again and they say only the 144,000 are born again. Jesus said destroy this temple and He would raise it up in 3 days and He was talking about the temple of His body. They say He materialized bodies, so they don't believe in the literal resurrection of Jesus. The bible says if Christ is not in you, you do not belong to Him, they say Christ cannot be in you. The bible says the Holy Spirit speaks, instructs, can be grieved and they call Him a force. Jesus calls God the Holy Father and the Catholics call the pope holy father.
This is why the Christians must pray for discernment and learn to test the spirits to see if they are from God.

WHAT A MESS!!

In the divine way implied; to believe in Jesus certainly seems to require a belief in the Bible. I don't see how the two can be rendered apart.

I don't think they mean this but some people believe that Jesus was an historical person (not divine).

If one is to believe in Jesus Christ and, therefor must also believe the Bible there is a whole lot of Unintelligent Design there.

Just b/c the bible depicts certain aspects and acts of Jesus doesn't mean they are true. I see no discrepancy in believing in the Jesus but not what the bible says.

Secondly, ALL religions who follow the bible do NOT follow everything it says. They all chose pieces of the bible to focus on and ignore others. Like the whole homosexuality thing. The bible also says that shellfish is an abomination and that its ok to have slaves and that women are the property of men. Do we follow all that stuff today? No, most religions do not. Like I said every religion picks bits and pieces and leaves out others.

It is the same as when people say:
I believe in following the law but I don't have a problem with stealing...

You can't have it both ways...

Christianity is based on the teachings of Jesus...

The bible is THE BASIS of Christianity...

If you deny what is in the bible then you deny Jesus Christ...

CHRIST is in the NAME for Christ's-Sake!

So, if you can be a Christian that doesn't believe in the bible does that mean that I can be a Jew that believes in Jesus?

Or how about an atheist that believes in the bible?

Makes about as much sense…

But then again… Logic and common sense have nothing to do with religion…

Since the New Testament was written after Jesus's death, and then edited down to its current state another couple centuries later by men with an organizational agenda, there is plenty of room to doubt that the real story of Jesus is contained therein.

Thomas Jefferson believed that Jesus was a great moral teacher, but that all that religious stuff had been tacked on by the apostles, so he produced a revised Gospel without the miracles and prophesy.

I believe in Jesus and the Bible is a very important book to me. I believe that it is the Word of God and we need its teachings everyday. It tells us also about others that believed and how Jesus came to this earth.

Well, for one the Bible wasn't even written for 4 or 5 hundred years after he died. Then it was passed around, held in secret and rewritten several times after that. No one outside of the church was even allowed to read the bible for another several hundred years - if you did or if you translated it you were killed.

How could that be an accurate account?

There are various levels to the god delusion.

Extra speshull fundie xians like to think they are more devout than ordinary Christians so their parasitic preachers make up more stories and lies to suck them deeper into the vortex scam; more power and more money for the leech.

There's good money to be made from religion IF you can keep a straight face.
