the best detangler is to get a good condition preferably a salon brand. the problem with shampoos and conditioners in stores is they contain a lot of wax which builds up on your hair creating a type of shield that prevents moisture from getting in. This a) dries your hair out incredibly causing it to split and break and b) causes it to tangle because the conditioner cannot do its job. If you did want to save money though, there is one shampoo and conditioner that is salon brand that they sell in stores. Tresseme is wonderful. Just make sure you get whatever kind applies to your hair (i.e. dry, normal, fine)
Second step. Now that you have your shampoo and conditioner. use your shampoo as you normally would. Now when you put your conditioner in...let it set for 5 minutes while gently working your fingers through your hair before rinsing. You may also want to pick up a leave-in conditioner on top of this method for a really tangled mess. You can get that in a salon too. A nice sized bottle runs about 8.50 where i go. Spray it or if it is a cream rub it in and then style your hair to your liking. Your hair should be shiny, smooth, and detangled. Hope this helps.

To prevent: Silk or satin pillowcase OR
Braid your hair at night
To remove existing: Use a deep conditioner. Squeeze water from hair with a towel (don't rub). Gently comb while slightly damp, starting at near the ends and gradually progressing to the scalp.
