...people can have multiple personalities, lose their memory, etc? These things make SENSE if you assume that the brain is all there is, but if we're really the soul then these things shouldn't be able to happen. How can one soul have multiple personalities? How can a soul lose its memory? (I'm not saying that religious folks think the brain just sits there, but they do believe that the survival of the brain is not necessary for the person's personality to live on after death...)

It was the spirit that was first breathed into you at conception, and it is the spirit that will leave you upon death. It will go to heaven to be with the Lord, not the body or the soul.

The soul is the seat of our emotions. It governs the way we react to what life deals to us. And we can be glad that we do not carry our soul with us when we go to heaven.

Feelings and emotions do not come from the brain, it just processes data, it cannot feel.

Have you ever had this feeling that we refer to as a gut feeling? It does not come from the brain, but from somewhere deep inside you and you cannot understand why you have those feelings, but you just cannot shake them.

why does it make sense if all there was was the brain, and not a soul?

I mean aren't you assuming alot about the nature of the soul to assume that it wouldn't make sense?

I will elaborate.

if I am driving in a car. I am a driver, and the car is the car, being driven.

if the car malfunctions in some way, and say, doesn't reliably follow the instructions I am giving it. or say the odometer randomly resets itself. or something like that. are those malfunctions because of me as a driver? does the fact that the car acts in a strange way mean that the driver is not there, or not controlling it? (or at least, not trying to?)

think of it this way.
Body= Car.
Soul = Driver.
Brain and other vital organs are equivalent to the car's computer and engine and other core systems.

now, YOU as you see the world, only are able to observe the car and driver and such as a single unit, how that driven car behaves and runs and operates.

most of the malfunctions that this general argument implies, are things like for example, the break line being cut. the "damage" isn't to the soul at all... it simply damages the ability of the soul to exert its will on the vessel.

or in other words, the soul does not lose its memory. the outward ability of the self to remember, in an active way.

multiple personalitys is an issue in the vehicle and the translation between the self and the collective unit of the soul and body functioning properly.

Easy..

If your full personality can only express itself through the structure of the brain,, then when the brain becomes damaged,, the soul cannot express itself as well.

Memory is accessed through the brain. The memories my lie in the soul,, but the brain cannot think them without haveing the memory portion of the brain working.

Don't forget that the soul is considered to be of infinate quality and actually restricted by the mind. So one's expressed personality is almost a function of the limited nature of the mind.

When you reincarnate, you DO develop a new personality. The soul is capable of looking at things from many points of view. And temporal memory is accessed by the soul, it is not stored there.

the brain, tells the body what to do, and "GOD" deals with the soul----GENESIS 2: 7--And the LORD GOD formed man of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living *soul* (the will of MAN) You know, it's that thing that makes you wanna do things, GOOD or BAD but that is your choice, but GOD gave that to you!

One thing is demonic possession..
A single person can have multiple demons inside and each one has a separate personality
In return from death experiences the person usually remembers everything that happened. I would think parallel memory would be the case..
A person can have physical brain damage and not be able to make physical contact with their soul .. Most people don't even make any contact with their soul..

The soul also has a spiritual body that leaves the physical body upon death..

buddhists believe that the personality dies with the body as well. things like sense of humor, musical talent, memories, etc. are gone. the essense of the soul is deeper than that. it's not the personality that is reincarnated.

The soul is a concept people had before they knew anything about science. It doesn't make any sense at all.

all the working parts of your car can be in top running order-and yet, if your ignition switch shorts out, your car wont run! does that mean that the ignition switch is the engine?
